For the waves of death engulfed me; the torrents of destruction terrified me. The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. I called to the LORD in my distress; I called to my God. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry for help reached his ears. 2 Samuel 22:5-7 CSB
If you identify with the words of 2 Samuel 22, then you’re a good candidate to know more about receiving encouragement from the Lord. David felt that death and destruction had followed him and he was left with distress. In this place, David spoke God’s name—and God listened.
You have been—or will be—in that place. Pressure mounts as circumstances rip you from your comfort zone. If you’re a car, you’ve wrecked. If you’re a house, an earthquake struck. If you’re a road, a river ended your course. This isn’t the makings of a feel-good movie, and it won’t be remembered as the subject from the good ole days. Like David, you need to take heart. You can only do that when you take the God who gave you a heart. Call His name believing He exists and that He has the power to help when you’re left feeling like death and destruction are the best you can hope for.
Prayer: Lord God, I need to be reminded that life here can never be perfect. Help me call whenever trouble comes. May Yours be the first name I say and the one I trust most.
