The Cost of Discipleship - Saint Marks UMC

Interesting, The “Text” you drew your Title from, now I am going to “critique” a portion of it.:p

1From that time [t]Jesus began to Matthew 16 New American Standard Biblepoint out to His disciples that it was necessary for Him to go to Jerusalem and to suffer manythings from the elders, chiefpriests, and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised up on the third day. 22And yet Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him saying, “[v]God forbid it, Lord! This [NONE Of THESE THINGS] shall never [w]happen to You!”:eyes:

I hope you see, because your “Sermon” is not on the paper or in the outline you written, but it is in You.
Whether “Layman or Pro”.:pensive:

When “You” stand in such a place you are An “AMBASSADOR” from “Heaven” and Not a ambasssdor of earth, you do not represent earth. You represent “ETERNITY”.

Next:

Luke 22:44 (KJV)
“And being in agony He Prayed MORE earnestly, and His Sweat “Was As [if] it WERE great drops of Blood falling down to the ground.”

Growing up clear into becoming a grown man.

As A kid I bled a lot, wounds, nose bleed every day, especially in the summer months, and I sweated like you would not believe, Gym, Football and in “Self Defense” training “Sensei’s” had a Mop detail to wipe before me.

I have watch Blood drip drops thick and light a many of days a cannot count, just watching the drip drip drip. I have watch Thr sweat drop, drip by drip both thick and light.

I became a “Connoisseur” of sweat drops and blood drops as a kid.

My Mother as said: “Just Like you DADDy”

Some have said: “You look like your mother”

My Father has said: “you act just like my daddy”

Some has said: “You got hands just like your DADDY”

And Jesus:
“And His sweat was “as it were great drops of Blood”

It did not say as many have proclaim, and preach that “Jesus sweated BLOOD”.
But Man will demand it to be so.

Jesus blood was “Shed” on The Cross for The Redemption of Mankind”

The Atonement.

His Blood, It was not shed in a barn, it was not shed on His Knees it was “Shedded on a Cross” [tree].

PS. thanks for the Thread, the post and The video.

“The Cost of Discipleship”

Amen, that a stark message our Lord tells us about the cost to following Him.

My dear brother, how is your cross feeling?

Is it heavy and weighing you down, or have you
casted your burdens to the one whose yoke is easy and burden light?

Love and God bless.

Well, in answering the question, it is “LIGHT” and ever so “BRIGHT” but It is kinda easy because it is share by a “Yoke”.:joy:

But if I didn’t have That “Yoke” to Share, like The song writer wrote in:
“we are our Heavenly Father Children” Lyrics…ff. relationship.

Next:

New American Standard Bible
but the one who did not know it, and committed acts deserving of a beating, will receive only a few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; [by GOD] and to whom [GOD] they entrusted much, of him [GOD] they will ask all the more.”

[Now that is what we may call, a “Butden of LIGHT”!]

You see, The World might see it different.

“My ways are not your ways, My thoughts are not your Thoughts“

[my burdens are not your kind of burdens, my LIGHT are Not your kind of light]

For we have The Mind of Christ”

Ask Jesus, when He was in that garden on his knees, “THE LIGHT” was Crying!

Now if you need a Interpreter, keep Living; you going to cry too! Heavy tears!

I do not care How much That “HOLY OIL” Thick Oil, Pours Heavy Down on your head and those “Angels” Come Down and comfort you, If you Could run Away, you Would! :joy:

That is one of the reasons why many of us are drawn by A Great Force To Read The “BOOK” in a Systematic Order “RELENTLESSLY” and not to be persuaded by other means as others may be. For many of us are so “ADAMANT” for this to is a “GIFT” of GOD. Not to serve ourselves but the body.

For we would run away, if we could.
“For we are slaves, “Bondslaves” and not by Choice.

So in essence, “Much wisdom much…ff.”

NASB 1977

but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. And from everyone who has been given much shall much be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.

NASB 1977

Because in much wisdom there is much grief, and increasing knowledge results in increasing pain.

NASB 1977

As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities.

American Standard Version

“that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the [Yoke] fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed unto his death”

I still sing that song in my closet:

“I come to the garden alone while the dew is still on the Roses”
And many more songs as such by myself that only GOD can hear.!

And He gives me a Melody in My Heart, singing back to me! That Another Cannot Know!
Down here By Myself, He Sings back to me!
And The Way He sings to me, “I am a “Fool for JESUS” and I Do not care What They say about me!
My wife, my son. My daughter, my dog, their church, her church, his church, the whole worldwide church! the Preacher, The Minister, The Evangelist , The Seminary, The Theologian, The Calvinist, The Pentecostal, The Methodist, The Pope, ROME, and any other kind of Angel!!

I feel like getting venacular in my Language

And express like a person that came from “nazareth”!

“can anything good come out of Nazareth”?

Now can you see?

That is what you call Impromptu preaching,

You can preach by a hand written sermon word for word.

You can preach by a outline sermon.

And you can preach what so called “Impromptu” hot off the wire. But Theological sound that cannot be Reputed.

You learn it all.

It “Disciplines” you and Takes you out of The equation. It humbles you as well!
And makes you more Discipline and keen [horne] you more to The Word.

Do you play Golf?

Yes, I see indeed. Amen. The light burden of "light" shared by a yoke.

I actually do not play golf.
I tried once in high school but noticed that if
I didn't get lessons I would be messing up my back
so I stopped.

I played tennis for my school high,
and flag football in college intramural,
and unofficial ping pong club president in college,
and chess club president in high school and currently chess instructor to children in my county.
and I cycle for fun, did 2 centurys while in college (100 mile bike ride).

I play these sports but never on a formal team
soccer, volleyball, basketball, track

And I'm aware of some martial arts,
Wanted to wrestle in high school but uniforms were too tight (no comment),
and my brother wrestled and did Karate in high school,
and he taught me some stuff. I use to watch MMA, but I stopped
due to feeling convicted, but I like the art aspect of martial arts.
I'm a visual learning and muscle mimic.

:) I cannot play anykind of Instrument I wanted to, but I could sing and read music and directed man’s church chorus and a few times church choirs. lead “soloist”. Many times. but never, as A main occupation.
Wife could play piano, youngest daughter Violin, youngest son, Alto Sax. Both have won rewards in recitals in high school.

Do you think I could even get one person only, in my house to even play “Amazing Grace” even once. Even just playing a tone to The “LORD”:pensive:
But they are the Christian’s, lead by their mother. And I am The out cast. I cannot get one to pray. But The Church and Christian’s honor with great respect and I am the pagan dog. I will not bow down no matter what the cost.

NASB 1977
And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his home town and among his own relatives and in his own household.”

“They have hated me really without a cause”

Because I try to choose that which is right. And they all have benefited. Because of The choices I made by denying myself.

They love “Word of Faith”. And that money.

Matthew 11:29-30 KJV

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
