Dan 1:10; and the commander of the officials said to Daniel, "I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink; for why should he see your faces looking more haggard than the youths who are your own age? Then you would make me forfeit my head to the king."
Dan 1:11; But Daniel said to the overseer whom the commander of the officials had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,
Dan 1:12; "Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink.
Dan 1:13; "Then let our appearance be observed in your presence and the appearance of the youths who are eating the king's choice food; and deal with your servants according to what you see."
Dan 1:14; So he listened to them in this matter and tested them for ten days.
Dan 1:15; At the end of ten days their appearance seemed better and they were fatter than all the youths who had been eating the king's choice food.
Dan 1:16; So the overseer continued to withhold their choice food and the wine they were to drink, and kept giving them vegetables.
I know some vegetarians and vegans that swear by this. There are people who eat little meat because of this.
However the Bible does also speak of eating meat.
(KJV) 1Cor 3:2; I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
Jesus Himself ate fish (after His resurrection)
Luke 24:41; While they still could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?"
Luke 24:42; They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish;
Luke 24:43; and He took it and ate it before them.
There was a time Jews were not supposed to eat certain animals. However it seems this is no longer the case.
Acts 10:13; A voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat!"
Acts 10:14; But Peter said, "By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean."
Acts 10:15; Again a voice came to him a second time, "What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy."
Adah was the great grandson of Enoch
Gen 4:20; Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. It seems people had livestock in Genesis.
In Numb 11:31-32; God gave the Jews, quail from heaven to eat in the wilderness.
Proverbs says "too much" meat is a bad thing.
Prov 23:20; Do not be with heavy drinkers of wine, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat;
Deut 12:15; "However, you may slaughter and eat meat within any of your gates, whatever you desire, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you; the unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle and the deer.
Deut 12:20; "When the LORD your God extends your border as He has promised you, and you say, 'I will eat meat,' because you desire to eat meat, then you may eat meat, whatever you desire.
Lev 11:3; 'Whatever divides a hoof, thus making split hoofs, and chews the cud, among the animals, that you may eat.
Lev 11:9; 'These you may eat, whatever is in the water: all that have fins and scales, those in the water, in the seas or in the rivers, you may eat.
Apparently Esau ate game (Esau may not be best example here. :smile:
Gen 25:28; Now Isaac loved Esau, because he had a taste for game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
So it doesn't seem that eating all kinds of meat was ever against Jewish law or custom. But it does seem to say that meat alone is not good for you.
But nonetheless, I am curious... how many "Daniel diet" vegetarians are here.
Also... even if you aren't a strict vegetarian, have you ever done a "Daniel fast" for a few days (vegetables only) ?
