The Glory of the New Covenant In Christ Is Greater Than That of the Old Covenant
"Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts:
5 According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.
6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts. 8. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.
9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts." Haggai 2: 4-9
Zerubbabel and Joshua were two of the leaders of those who returned to rebuild the wall and temple after the Babylonian captivity.
This rebuilding actually happened, but as Paul says in I Corinthians 10: 11, "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."
"He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second." Hebrews 10: 9
The glory of the New Covenant, fulfilled in Jesus Christ, in that which is spiritual, is greater than the glory of the Old Covenant. And yet the Christian Zionists - the dispensationlalists - want to keep the Old Covenant in some ways, and honor all old Covenant Israel of the flesh.
"Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times." Daniel 9: 25
The city Daniel saw in Daniel 9: 25 is the New Jerusalem of Revelation 21: 1-2, coming down from heaven from God as a bride adorned for her husband. Those who put on Christ, that is, he is being formed in them (Galatians 4:19), are New Jerusalem, like the lively stones of I Peter 2: 5 who make up the spiritual house of Israel reborn in Christ.
"Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee." Isaiah 60: 1-2
Isaiah 60: 1-2 is about the glory of the Lord rising on those in him, and the greater glory and light happens when Christ appears. "And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory." Mark 13: 26
