Many of you may read this and have a "yea didn't you know" thought, but I was so jacked about discovering it wihtout aide, i have to share with those that "don't know".
So Saturday my wife and I went to Blockbuster, having completely depleted their selection our expectations weren't high, and so it was we founfd ourselves away from the new releases and looking for a couple 'scene it but not for awhile's". As the thread suggests we agreed on The Green Mile which I'm sure I have scene a dozen times but again not for awhile...and more importatnly not since I turned my life over to Jesus.
So as the story goes this monster of a man has killed 2 little girls, but his character unfolds humbly and about 1/4 way through its revealed he has these amazing healing powers....(back of mind neurons make a connection to some other guy that had healing powers). Wasn't long before I was watching this movie through a filter and pulled out the following:
- Man's name John Coffy...initials JC ...enough said
- Healing powers used to cure the sick and raise the dead, was saddened by the hate in the world, and wanted love
- Broke bread and shared it
- was executed in same way as 2 fellow inmates who deserved their punishment, but was himself blameless
- miracles were witnessed by four guard accounts (...Mt, Mrk, Lk, Jn)
- Most of the story is told post mortum by guard namedd....you guessed it...Paul
- could go on and on but once the light clicked it seems very deliberate that JC's charcter is a personification of Christ - how he lived, what he felt, etc. as a man.
Of course first thing after the credit roled I went to Google to search on the issue and found that in fact there were several sights with discussion on the narrative , symbolism....at first I have to admit there was some let down that I was infact the one that missed something the first dozen times I had watched it and had not made a great discovery, but then my thoughts changed to how awesome a personal sign it was that my eyes now seek the Lord so easily in all things.
As I said obviously this isn't new news to everyone, but if you were like me and had scene this movie before but not 'in search' I encourage you to take another look. I further would challenge you to first watch it and seek out all the symbolism then do the research and see what you got / may have missed.
