"The Heart of Worship"
Have you heard the song, "The Heart of Worship"? It's a call for us to return to the heart of worship, Jesus Christ. Well what about the heart of prayer? What is the primary focus of prayer? I believe Scripture teaches that the heart of prayer is seeking God's face. And the motive? The only pure motive for seeking His face is that He is worthy to be sought. Isn't this true? God spoke through the prophet Jeremiah and said, "You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart." David cried out in Psalm 27, "Your face, O Lord, I shall seek", and in Psalm 63, "I shall seek You earnestly, my soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You." We should be like Moses who, after spending time with God, shouted, "Show me Thy Glory!"
This is truly the heart of prayer. Are you hungry for God's Presence? Does your soul cry out for Him? Do you see prayer as the path to abiding in the very Throne Room of God? If not, don't despair; God knows just where you are. Perhaps many of us should start with a prayer like this: "Lord, please give me the desire to desire You. I want to want You. Help me develop the passion to earnestly seek Your face." These are the kind of prayers our Father loves to answer. Take some time this week to present yourself to God. Open up His Word and use it to declare His praise, worship Him with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, rejoice and make melody in your heart, wait before Him quietly, and pour out your heart to Him in prayer. Go ahead, He's waiting for you. God be with you all...
