The prayer march

First off, when I saw yesterday's prayer march, I was initially encouraged and blessed. The sight of so many of the faithful praying for our nation was moving and made me want to pray then and there.

However, when I saw pastor Franklin Graham and the other pastors taking turns praying, I felt something troubling in my spirit. I was actually repulsed by what I was seeing so much that I had to turn off the live feed!

As soon as I did that, I went to God in prayer. Was the devil harassing me and keeping me from sharing in this moment of public worship? It was then that God directed me to this verse:

Matthew 6:5
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. "

Was what I was seeing just that? I have no criticism for the pastors of Mr. Grahmn, but I cannot help but feel this was all wrong.

I will comment more on this later, but I welcome my brothers and sisters in Christ to tell me your thought.

I personally feel like it comes down to motivation of the heart. Are you doing this to "puff" yourself up, and make you look good?
Or are you doing it because you sincerely want God to change something?

Praying alone is good, there is a time for that, but even Jesus sometimes prayed with others.

Luke 9:28; Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.

1Tim 2:8; Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.

There may some who join these prayer marches to "make themselves look good", I don't know. But I think for the majority, it's a show of solidarity of the saints.
A message that there are many Christians in the world who are praying for this country.

Acts 4:31; And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness

There are times in the Bible when people gathered for corporate prayer.

Acts 20:36; When he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all.

Jos 6:3; "You shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do so for six days.
Jos 6:4; "Also seven priests shall carry seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.

Perhaps God told Franklin Graham to do this, I don't know. But He has told others to march around cities proclaiming the Lord.
