Hmmm. The Red Dragon. I wonder who this could possibly be? China, perhaps? A communist nation who still openly persecutes Christians?

Rev 12:3-4
3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
(KJV)

The "red dragon" is another title for Satan. Later in that same chapter we are told other titles Satan has, and the dragon is one of them.

The time of that red dragon there is specific since it is given along with the time when he drew a third of the stars (angels) to earth with his tail. That was at a time prior to Adam and Eve, a time when Satan first rebelled against God in wanting to be God.

That also means, that ten horned, seven headed, seven crowned beast was manifest at Satan's original rebellion against God. The number of crowns (seven) is different than the one mentioned in the next Rev.13 chapter which has ten crowns.

The dragon is Satan - Rev 12:9. Satan was a serpent in Genesis, but in Revelation Satan has become a dragon. Red symbolizes blood or warfare. So it is a blood-thirsty and war-faring Satan, red from the blood of the saints, the martyrs. Of course, satan does not do this directly, but raises up human kingdoms of men to do his bidding.
So we have the 7 heads and 10 horns which is the beast: Rev 13:1
This beast is the 4th (and last) beast in Daniel:
Daniel 7:7 "After this I watched in the night visions, and there was a fourth beast, dreadful and frightful and exceedingly strong; and it had large iron teeth; it devoured and crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns."

The 7 heads are 7 Caesars of the Roman Empire (Rev 17:7), and the 10 horns are 10 kings of kingdoms raised up by a revived Roman Empire (Rev 17:12). The 10 horns (kings) in Revelation are symbolized by 10 toes in Daniels prophecy.

The beast is the revived Roman Empire with the 10 kingdoms (or 10 kings). Therefore the revived Roman Empire, is joined with Satan. Also see Daniel 2:42 - 2:44. Some have speculated that the 10 kingdoms is the 10 original member countries of the European Union.

Revelation 17:10 says 5 Caesars have come, one was alive during John's time of writing Revelation, and therefore there is 1 last Caesar to come, who will come in the end-times.
This prophecies a future situation in which we have a revived Roman Empire with the final Caesar and 10 associated kingdoms with 10 kings, in cooperating with Satan, persecuting God's people, the Christians and the Jews.

Even though the ancient Roman Empire has ceased, we are still in the age of the Roman Empire until Christ comes back. The spirit of the Roman Empire continues in the religious arm known as the RC church. Our Western civilization is very much influenced by the Roman and Greek systems.

Therefore unless the Chinese and other Asian countries adopt the spirit of Rome Empire, and in a way they have by embracing capitalism and elements of democracy, China may not be the beast or dragon mentioned in Revelation. In fact the Chinese are converting to Christianity at an alarming rate. It may well be that China will overtake the West as the dominant "Christian" country in the world. Whereby the West degrades to become the beast of the Roman Empire, in league with the dragon. It is also interesting that Jesus and Christianity was born out of the Roman Empire, and it will be the Roman Empire that once again tries to defeat Christians and Jews in the last days.

Rev.12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: ....

Rev 13:1-2
1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
(KJV)

The number of crowns is different between those two different beast examples. For a long time I never noticed it.

Rev.12:1-5 is a type of summary, from the time when Satan first rebelled against God in the time of old unto the future reign of Christ. Because the time when Satan drew a third of the angels with him in rebellion is given along with that red dragon title and 7 crown beast kingdom, it had to have been before, when he first sinned against God in coveting His Throne.

God through the Old Testament prophets gave some info about Satan's original rebellion in the beginning. Those not studied in that will have missed this Rev.12:3-4 pointer.

Per Rev.12:7 forward, it is Satan as the dragon that will be cast down to this earth out of the Heavenly dimension with his angels which is what will cause the "great tribulation" my Lord Jesus forewarned of. Satan is coming to try and do again what he did when he first rebelled in coveting God's Throne and wanting to be God. This is why Apostle Paul gave the warning of the "man of sin" in 2 Thess.2:3-4 that is to sit in the temple in Jerusalem and exalt himself in place of God, and over all that is called God, or that is worshipped.

To equate Rome with that is like equating an ant colony with the most powerful supernatural being to set foot upon this earth, excepting Jesus Christ.
