The role of the internet and social media in Christian parenting

As Christian parents, how do we raise our children in the "digital age"?
I believe the internet and social media is taking away the traditional role of parenting.
There is a saying that it "takes a village to raise a child". But there is now a worldwide digital village out there that is raising our children instead of us, if we are not careful.
For example,
Before you have time to answer your child's question they already have found the answer on Google.
You instruct your child in a certain way but they disagree with you because of what Google says.
When they ask us a question do we tell them to look up Google or do we try to use our God given wisdom?
Did they first learn about sex or other matters from twitter or Facebook and not you?
We have to ask ourselves "Who is really raising our child?"
I believe our current generation is a generation of people raised by the internet, not by fathering and mothering.
I believe the negative impacts of this could be much worse than the issue of divorce, as it takes away from the God-given role of the parent (whether single parent or two-parent) as the primary educator and source of wisdom/knowledge in the home, to the detriment of the child.
How do we ensure that our child comes to us first with their problems and questions, instead of going to the internet?

Greetings @james1523

Thank you for raising this thread, what you have raised has been on the heart and mind of my husband and I for quite sometime.
I don't know the answer to your thread but share the same concerns

My oldest two daughters aged 13 and 11 attend a Christian School. Almost everything they do at school is on the computer, assignments, research, homework.
And although the school has strict boundaries for safety, I am shocked by the amount of 'stuff' they know from researching on google and wikipedia etc

When we put some boundaries on my 13 year old recently due to a spurt of very bad behaviour
She came home the next day with an article she'd printed up at school from the internet......instructing parents on how to make their children happy!

We are seeking the Lord about how to raise our children in this world so dominated by the internet and asking Him to show what to do

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6
