SUFFICIENCY OF SCRIPTURE

I perceived how that it was impossible to establish the lay people in any truth except the Scripture were plainly laid before their eyes in their mother tongue.

--William Tyndale (c. 1494 - 1536) was a 16th century scholar and translator who became a leading figure in Protestant reformism towards the end of his life. In 1535, Tyndale was arrested by church authorities and jailed in the castle of Vilvoorde outside Brussels for over a year. He was tried for heresy, strangled and burnt at the stake. The Tyndale Bible, as it was known, continued to play a key role in spreading Reformation ideas across Europe.

hey Steven...in today's world "Sufficiency of Scripture" as an attribute of the body of words on paper we call the Bible is a meaningless pipe dream.
But I must point out: the proponents of that criticism are themselves a smiling cat in a tree.

Their world view, out of which they so judge, (when pressed for the epistemology of how they know they know?) fails and fades away, having only relative irrationality at its base. All that is left is the smile, which is totally cat-less.

The Bible is not just a self attesting authority adequate to save sinners (James 1:21; 1Tim.6:20; 2Tim.3:15), but it is also: truth, that enlightens mans understanding of God's world and man's place in it.
It is not a smiling cat, but it is the hammer that breaks the rock into pieces (Jer.3:29), forever settled in the heavens (Ps.119:89), that will not pass away until all is fulfilled (Matt.24:35). If the Bible were not true, knowledge could not exist, and man could know nothing: that men know things at all, verifies the Truth laid down in its pages. The fool says in his heart, there is no God. It is so.
