This might seem like an irrelevant topic but we can't ignore how things are in the world.
Your canned goods and most OTC meds are fine after the Best Buy/Use By dates.
The video does a good job of explaining it.
You want to keep a wide variety of healthier foods. Some say 6 months. I'd say at least a year for a family of 4 minus your perishables and other foods with much shorter shelf life.
All you need is a good set of Sharpies to mark you boxed and canned food. Then you put the furthest dates in the back or in another cool, dry place.
Inventory both on a PC and print them out and put in a binder.
There's some info in the video on how much money our country spends on food and then how much we just "throw it away" and much of it is perfectly edible.
It's not about lack of food but access to it.
My 2nd job (and longest) was in food retail. I did all kinds of things like stock, audits, recalls, closeout and put new products. Given the way things are with stores then we should do our best to stock as much as we can.
