Hag 1:3; Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet, saying,
Hag 1:4; "Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses while this house lies desolate?"
Hag 1:5; Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, "Consider your ways!
Hag 1:6; "You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes."
Hag 1:7; Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Consider your ways!
Hag 1:8; "Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified," says the LORD.
Hag 1:9; "You look for much, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why?" declares the LORD of hosts, "Because of My house which lies desolate, while each of you runs to his own house.

This is an interesting passage to me. God wanted another Temple. The first one was in pretty bad shape. It needed a lot of repairs.
God is not happy that people are investing time and money in their houses, but not in His. God is even punishing them by causing them to waste money.

In the New Testament there are some verses that say God dwells within us. We are a Temple.

1Cor 3:16; Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1Cor 3:17; If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.
1Cor 6:19; Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

Jesus called the Temple "His Father's House"

Luke 2:49; And He said to them, "Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father's house?"
John 2:16; and to those who were selling the doves He said, "Take these things away; stop making My Father's house a place of business."

Jesus wasn't happy with some of the things going on in the Temple in John 2. It seems it wasn't a perfect church, and yet despite that, Jesus still calls it His Father's House.

A lot of people don't know that there is a Temple in heaven.

Rev 11:19; And the temple of God which is in heaven was opened; and the ark of His covenant appeared in His temple, and there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a great hailstorm.

It says the Ark of the Covenant is still there. For those who don't know, the Ark of the Covenant contained the 10 commandments. At least the one on the Earth did.

Rev 14:17; And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle.

Apparently, there are angels in the Temple in Heaven. However, during the plagues of the Tribulation...

Rev 15:8; And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power; and no one was able to enter the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.

Rev 16:1; Then I heard a loud voice from the temple, saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God."
Rev 16:17; Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl upon the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple from the throne, saying, "It is done."

From the throne in the Temple, it seems that God's throne is currently in a Temple in heaven.
Jesus went to the Temple in Heaven also.

Heb 9:11; But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation;
Heb 9:24; For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;

The Temple on Earth was a "mere copy" of the one in Heaven.

Acts 7:47; "But it was Solomon who built a house for Him.
Acts 7:48; "However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says:
Acts 7:49; 'HEAVEN IS MY THRONE, AND EARTH IS THE FOOTSTOOL OF MY FEET; WHAT KIND OF HOUSE WILL YOU BUILD FOR ME?' says the Lord, 'OR WHAT PLACE IS THERE FOR MY REPOSE?

The following passages seem to contradict each other, but I suspect it's really about the timing on them.

Rev 3:12; 'He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.
Rev 7:15; "For this reason, they are before the throne of God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them.

So these two verses say there is a Temple in Heaven, and some people will serve God there. But later on, when the New Jerusalem comes down to Earth.

Rev 21:22; I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

It seems that eventually we won't be the Temple, the Temple on Earth won't be the Temple, and possibly even the Temple in Heaven won't be the Temple.

The Father and the Lamb will be the Temple. Perhaps this is what God wanted all along? I notice in the Garden of Eden, before the first Temple was ever built on Earth, God came and visited man in the Garden.

But in the meantime...

Isa 6:1; In the year of King Uzziah's death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.
Isa 6:2; Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
Isa 6:3; And one called out to another and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory."
Isa 6:4; And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke.
