'SPEAK TO ONE ANOTHER IN PSALMS, HYMNS AND SPIRITUAL SONGS. SING AND MAKE MUSIC IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD' EPHESIANS 5:19
The Bible is stuffed full of what GOD has to say about the things WE say. Words are powerful, they can big you up or batter you down and how we speak to ourselves and each other makes a difference. Paul talks about the importance of using the words in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. So why are they so important?
1) Get Real: Check out the psalms and you will find the songwriters are full on with their honesty. They are keeping it real with God and with other people. Check out Psalm 51. Imagine writing a song about how you messed up and then it gets released in the charts, so everyone knows. God loves this honesty and it's good for us for when we are real with Him.
2) Get Close: Hymns and songs help us get closer to God. They can express something that we could just think of or say. God loves to get close to people who are singing or rapping about how much they adore Him.
3) Get the true view: When we big God up through spiritual songs it helps us to see things as they really are! He is our awesome, all powerful Dad, who is in total control of our lives and problems! Today most of your words to God and Christian mates will be about friends, family, school and the person you fancy. The more that you use words to big God up the bigger the difference it will make to your day. Don't wait until Sunday, bang on your best Christian CD and let rip!
