The world Definition of "Born from Above" " Born of GOD", a "New Creature", "Born of HIS Spirit" is:

"Born again is a phrase used by many Protestants to describe the phenomenon of gaining faith in Jesus Christ. It is an experience when everything they have been taught as Christians becomes real, and they develop a direct and personal relationship with God."

Born again, or to experience the new birth, is a phrase, particularly in evangelicalism, that refers to "spiritual rebirth", or a regeneration of the human spirit from the Holy Spirit, contrasted with physical birth. It is a core doctrine of Methodist, Quaker, Baptist, Pentecostal and other evangelical Christian denominations.[1][2][3][4]

In contemporary Christian usage, the term is distinct from sometimes similar terms used in forms of Christianity apart from evangelicalism to refer to being or becoming Christian, which is linked to baptism and the related doctrine of baptismal regeneration. Individuals who profess to be "born again" often state that they have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.[5][6][7] The phrase "born again" is also used as an adjective to describe individual members of the movement who espouse this belief, as well as the movement itself ("born-again Christian" and the "born-again movement").

The gospel of John was written in Koine Greek and the original text is ambiguous which results in a double entendre that
Nicodemus misunderstands. The word translated as again is ἄνωθεν (ánōtʰen), which could mean either "again", or "from above".[9] The double entendre is a figure of speech that the gospel writer uses to create bewilderment or misunderstanding in the hearer; the misunderstanding is then clarified by either Jesus or the narrator. Nicodemus takes only the literal meaning from Jesus's statement, while Jesus clarifies that he means more of a spiritual rebirth from above. English translations have to pick one sense of the phrase or another; the NIV, King James Version, and Revised Version use "born again", while the New Revised Standard Version[10] and the New English Translation[11] prefer the "born from above" translation.[12] Most versions will note the alternative sense of the phrase anōthen in a footnote.

Edwyn Hoskyns argues that "born from above" is to be preferred as the fundamental meaning and he drew attention to phrases such as "birth of the Spirit",[13] "birth from God",[14] but maintains that this necessarily carries with it an emphasis upon the newness of the life as given by God himself.[15]

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Some translations state "Born Again" while others "Born From Above". Born Again = Born From Above.

Are you Born From Above or Born Again? If yes, how did you get Born Again or Born From Above?

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Amen, Amen, I say unto thee, Except one be born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born being an old man? can he enter a second time into the womb of his mother, and be born?
3:5 Jesus answered, Amen, Amen, I say unto thee, Except one be born of water and Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
3:6 What is born of the flesh is flesh; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.
3:7 Marvel not that I said to thee, Ye must be born from above.
3:8 The Spirit breatheth where he willeth, and thou hearest his voice, but knowest not whence he cometh, and whither he goeth: so is every one born of the Spirit.

Mark 16:15 And he said to them, Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.
16:16 Who hath believed and is baptized shall be saved; but who hath disbelieved shall be condemned.
16:17 And these signs shall follow them that have believed: in my name shall they cast out demons, speak with tongues;
16:18 and in their hands they shall take up serpents, and if they drink aught deadly, it shall in now wise hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
16:19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.
16:20 And THEY went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word by the signs that followed.

Acts 19:1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper regions came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples:
19:2 and he said unto them, Whether ye received the Holy Spirit when ye believed? And they said unto him, Nay, we did not so much as hear whether there is a Holy Spirit.
19:3 And he said, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into the baptism of John.
19:4 And Paul said, John baptized a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe unto him that should come after him, that is, unto Jesus.
19:5 And when they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
19:6 And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
19:7 And they were in all about twelve men.

Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching good tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.
8:13 And Simon himself also believed: and being baptized, he continued with Philip; and beholding signs done and great miracles, he was amazed.
8:14 Now when the apostles, those at Jerusalem, heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
8:15 who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they receive the Holy Spirit:
8:16 for as yet He was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.
11:10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and who seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it is being opened.
11:11 And of which of you that is the father shall the son ask a fish, and he for a fish give him a serpent?
11:12 Or again shall ask an egg, will he give him a scorpion?
11:13 If ye therefore, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall the Father who is from heaven give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Luke 24:45 Then opened he [Jesus] their mind to understand the scriptures:
24:46 and he said to them [that], Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise from the dead the third day;
24:47 and that repentance unto remission of sins be preached in his name unto all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
24:48 Ye are witnesses of these things.
24:49 And lo, I send forth the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry YE in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high.

Acts 1:4 and, being assembled with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which ye heard from me:
Act 1:5 because John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, [Men] Brethren, what shall we do?
2:38 And Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized each of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
2:39 For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.
2:40 And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Be saved from this crooked generation.

And JESUS spoke these Words, and He does not lie:

"Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?.... NO ONE has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man."

IF You cannot Not, Understand These Earthly Words and Terms, How can you understand , what it means to be "BORN of GOD" :pensive:

You must be taught by GOD to speak the Heavenly Language, as if it was "The Penmanship of a Ready Writer".

Oh, How Sweet, HE is:pensive:

Matthew 3:13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

Do you think a person can be Born Again or Born From Above without John the Baptist Baptism?

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Amen, Amen, I say unto thee, Except one be born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Do you see in these Scriptures that you must be Water Baptised to be Born Again/Born From Above?

A person can and Is born from above / born again Without the benefit of Any baptism.

Looking at John the Baptist -- he proclaimed to be the forerunner of Jesus Christ. We're going through the book of John in Bible study at church -- just started. I don't understand the need For John the Baptist and the need For a forerunner of Jesus Christ, but it's very much in God's Word. John the Baptist said , himself that his baptism was with water But that Jesus would be baptizing with the Holy Spirit" -- upon a person's salvation, the Holy Spirit immediate does come to indwell the person -- their soul is 'baptized' immersed by the Holy Spirit and stays with us until we are safe With Jesus.

That passage is Jesus talking with Nicodemus -- Nicodemus thought that Jesus meant that to be 'born again' a person had to be born physically twice -- being born physically is being born of 'water' -- the bag of 'water' has to be broken in order for a baby to be born. But the 2nd birth is from the Holy Spirit coming to indwell. Thus - being born of the Spirit.

'I don't understand the need For John the Baptist and the need For a forerunner of Jesus Christ' "Because scripture must be fulfilled"

New American Standard Bible
How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?”

When Jesus and the Apostles referred to Scriptures. That was the Old Testament, The Apostles and the Disciples taught The Old Testament writings. and they Revealed what the writing were. The writings was about "Jesus Christ" the Son of GOD..

Nut shell, Jesus told "Nicodemus" you cannot understand the meaning of being "Born from Above". If you cannot understand the earthy things i tell you, there is no way you can understand the Heaven things. In the nut shell that is what he told 'Nicodemus". it is impossible for you to understand what I mean. "You must be "Born from Above" to understand what I mean. Is the understanding of the text that hard for people to understand? answer: YES! You must be "Born From ABOVE"

It does not matter what "Nicodemus" thinks it matters what Jesus says.:pensive: Nicodemus is nothing but a piece of clay and the "POTTER" is telling him, it is impossible for him to understand what it means to be "born from above". "can you tell where the winds comes from and how it blows"?

Literal Standard Version (John 3)
"You may not, wonder that I said to you, It is required for you to be born from above;" [to understand what i am saying]

Jesus told him. plain as daylight, No one knows how they are "Born from Above"!

(John 3)
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

It cannot get any plainer than that that.
No One Knows how they are "Born from Above"

Of Course a person CAN know how they are 'born from above'. That's the point of the passage.

We are All like Nicodemus -- need to have God's Word explained to us -- we are All 'clay' in the potter's /God's / hands

@Sue D., The above that you have written explains why you are not and never will be Saved while continuing to hold to this teaching. Why do you think Yeshua/Jesus did John's Baptism? Do you think that Yeshua/Jesus does anything that is unimportant?

@Sue D. Are you saying that when Water is mentioned in John 3, this is talking about the Waters being broken in a Woman's Physical Birth?
