“Rescue me, O Lord, from evil men;
Preserve me from violent men
Who devise evil things in their hearts;
They continually stir up wars.
They sharpen their tongues as a serpent;
Poison of a viper is under their lips. Selah.
“Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
Preserve me from violent men
Who have purposed to trip up my feet.
The proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords;
They have spread a net by the wayside;
They have set snares for me. Selah.” (Psalms 140:1-5 NASB’95)
Now, under the New Covenant that our Lord has with us who believe in Jesus Christ, comprised of both Jew and Gentile by physical birth, we are the Israel of God by faith in Jesus Christ resulting in our death to sin and walks of obedience to our Lord and to his New Covenant commands. We are those whose lives are surrendered to doing the will of God and for whom sin is no longer our habit, i.e. what we do deliberately and habitually in practice.
But, as followers of Jesus Christ, we are not promised that life will be easy for us, and that we will have no troubles, and that everyone will like us and agree with us. We are promised the opposite of that, in fact. We are promised that we will share in the fellowship of Christ’s sufferings, both in dying with him to sin and in being hated and persecuted as he was hated and persecuted by those who opposed him. We will have enemies.
And then we have all these prophesies of Scripture regarding the last days before the return of Christ where we are told what we should expect should happen to us. And we are told that we will be delivered up to tribulation, and some (or all) of us they will kill, and we will be hated and betrayed, even by others professing Jesus Christ, and even by our own family members. And we are warned against a great deception and of the rule of “The Beast.”
[Matthew 5:10-12; Matthew 10:16-39; Matthew 24:9-14; Luke 6:22-23; Luke 21:12-17; John 15:18-21; John 17:14; Rom 5:3-5; Phil 3:7-11; 1 Pet 1:6-7; 1 Pet 4:12-17; 2 Tim 3:12; 1 Thess 3:1-5; Jas 1:2-4; 2 Co 1:3-11; Heb 12:3-12; 1 Jn 3:13; Revelation 6:9-11; Revelation 7:9-17; Revelation 11:1-3; Revelation 12:17; Revelation 13:1-18; Revelation 14:1-13]
Therefore, we must face the reality that God is not always going to rescue us physically from evil men (and women). He may not deliver us from every opposition we face and from everyone who is bent on persecuting and opposing us and who is doing evil against us. But we must also face the reality that not everyone who we think is on our side is truly on our side, for we are promised a great deception which will sweep over the world.
So be careful in whom you put your trust, for those in whom you trust may turn out to be your worst nightmare. They may turn out to be the exact opposite of who you believed them to be. That is why the Bible warns us about “wolves in sheep’s clothing” and against being deceived. And it why we are taught that we should be discerning people who test the spirits against the truth of the Scriptures (studied in the proper context).
Now, in America, and in the world as a whole, I believe we are going through a time of massive deception. I believe that there is a conglomeration of the wealthy and the powerful of the world who are presently plotting evil against the people of the world, and perhaps right now may be aimed mostly against the USA. Time will tell. They are devising evil in their hearts against us, the people, while often presenting themselves in the public as our “saviors.”
And, with regard to the political left and the political right in America, I believe they are just two sides of the same whole. I do not believe that all their followers see them in that light, and that is why we have the left and right politically aggressively fighting against one another. For they don’t see that both sides work for the same people and it is an evil plot against them to get them fighting each other thinking that they are making a difference.
I believe that both sides, which I believe are two sides of the same whole, each have legitimate concerns and even truthful stories about what is really happening in America. But I believe each side to be an extreme of the other with the deliberate purpose, created by the elites, to keep the people fighting one another rather than seeing that we are all being targeted by the wealthy and powerful of the world, who are presently taking down the USA.
Now, I believe that we should all be praying for spiritual discernment in these matters so that we don’t get tripped up and end up following after the lies and the liars and not after the truth. I believe we should inquire of God if we are believing the lies instead of the truth, and that he will show us who is of God and who is of the devil but may be disguising themselves as servants of righteousness. And this needs to not disagree with the Scriptures.
So, although the Lord may rescue us physically from evil men, we are not promised that in these final days before our Lord’s return. But we are promised that if our lives are surrendered to the Lord, to do his will, and if we are following our Lord in obedience, and we are not living in sin, that he will keep us safe from the evil one spiritually so that we do not fall into the devil’s trap. He will expose the evil to us so that we are not led astray.
So, to me, the greatest thing we should be praying for is that we will know and obey the will of God, that we will be on the right course, and that we will not be led astray by sin’s deceitfulness. And then we should pray for discernment to know who to believe and who to not believe, according to the teachings of the Scriptures, so that we will not be led astray. But we should not be putting our hope and trust in any humans to “save” us, not ever.
And then we should make certain we are believing the right gospel that teaches us that to come after Christ we must deny self, die daily to sin, and follow our Lord in walks of obedience to his commands. For if sin is what we practice, and not obedience to God, we will not inherit eternal life with God, regardless of whether or not we give lip service to the Lord. For many will hear Jesus say, “I never knew you. Depart from me you workers of lawlessness.” Why? Because they would not obey our Lord’s commands.

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.
Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
