therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

Hello there,
My mind is buzzing around the question raised by PloughBoy, Mister: in relation to this verse you quote, and I have had to come downstairs and look at this thread, because I can't sleep! My thoughts went to two Scriptures, the first were the words of Caiaphas, and the other the words of our Lord concerning Jerusalem, both below.
'And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them,
"Ye know nothing at all, Nor consider that it is expedient for us,
that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
And this spake he not of himself:
but being high priest that year,
he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
And not for that nation only,
but that also he should gather together in one
the children of God that were scattered abroad.
Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put Him to death.
Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews;
but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness,
into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with His disciples.'
(John 11:49-54)
'The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him,
"Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee."
And He said unto them, "Go ye, and tell that fox,
Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow,
and the third day I shall be perfected.
Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following:
for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee;
how often would I have gathered thy children together,
as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
Behold, your house is left unto you desolate:
and verily I say unto you,
Ye shall not see Me, until the time come when ye shall say,
Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord."
(Luke 13:31-35)
'How is the faithful city become an harlot!
it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it;
but now murderers.'
(Isa 1:21)
* Then there is Isaiah 53:8-12:-
'He was taken from prison and from judgment:
and who shall declare His generation?
for He was cut off out of the land of the living:
for the transgression of My people was He stricken.
And He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death;
because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth.
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief:
when thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied:
by His knowledge shall My righteous servant justify many;
for He shall bear their iniquities.
Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great,
and He shall divide the spoil with the strong;
because He hath poured out His soul unto death:
and He was numbered with the transgressors;
and He bare the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.'
(Isaiah 53:8-12)
'And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary,
there they crucified Him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
Then said Jesus,
"Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
And they parted His raiment, and cast lots.
And the people stood beholding.
And the rulers also with them derided Him, saying,
"He saved others; let Him save Himself, if He be Christ, the chosen of God."'
(Luke 23:33-35)
* All honour, glory and praise, to Him Who loved us and gave Himself for us.
Amen
