This message is only for the committed.
This message is only for the committed. You may be part of the community, or even the crowd who liked to follow Jesus and enjoy His many healings and miracles. Closer still was the congregation who received His teaching and embraced the Truth. But this message is for the committed - those who are earnestly pursuing Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Are you committed to becoming a disciple of Christ? Because today we will look at some of the habits and priorities of disciples. If you have chosen to develop the character of Christ and to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, then hear this: The Spirit of God will use the Word of God to make you like the Son of God. In Proverbs we read, "Hold on to instruction, do not let it go, guard it well, for it is your life."
Sanctification requires revelation! And, according to Hebrews 4, only God's Word can reveal the very thoughts and intentions of our hearts. Jesus taught that true disciples will abide in His Word. As you abide in His Word you will: Accept its authority in your life; Assimilate its truth for your life; Apply its principles to your life. In doing so you become a doer of the Word and not just a hearer only. In your obedience to His Word you actually validate your faith and build your life on the Rock, Jesus Christ. One last thought. When you prioritize God's Word and make it a habit to accept, assimilate, and apply it to your life, the following alliteration may help keep you on track. You must Receive God's Word through counsel and teaching. You must Read God's Word as part of a daily devotional plan. You must Research God's Word with careful and diligent study. You must Remember God's Word to use as a sword to fight temptation. And you must Reflect on God's Word and let it transform your thinking. God will be with you as you earnestly pursue Him...
