"I am the Alpha and the Omega, [the] Beginning and [the] End," says the Lord, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." Revelation 1:8 NKJV
Humans like stories. We tell stories to share our understanding of the world, to spend time together, and to be entertained. We like how stories have clearly defined beginnings, middles, and endings. We can relate to the story structure because we have beginnings, middles, and endings too. But God isn’t a story. He is the story.
While we were made in the image of God, there are aspects of His nature we can’t understand. God doesn’t have a beginning. He is the Beginning. He doesn’t have an end. He is the End. God doesn’t operate within time like the time-bound beings that we are. He created time for things to happen in, but He exists outside of it in the same way that computer programmers don’t live in the computers they program.
Why does this matter? Because God is the Almighty. We don’t have to understand His nature or have all our questions answered for Him to be in charge. We are invited to trust that He is for us and that nothing can thwart His plan for us.
God is the timeless One who is, and who was, and who is to come. He loves you, has loved you, and will love you forever.
Prayer: Lord, I don’t need to fully understand You to trust You with my whole heart.
