John 15:1-17

Hi everyone!

Could you please help me?

I have some questions regarding John 15. I have to be honest and say that I don't always go with this warm, fuzzy feeling for others. But of course love is not just a feeling. Still, I don't always manage to love others around me as Jesus loved me. And I do make mistakes. But at the same time, His words are clear: to love God is to obey His commands. (John 14:21) (1 John 5:3). So what does abiding in the wine really mean? I don't think Jesus expects us to never stumble. Has it something to do with Romans 6:11, that we should consider ourselves dead to sin? And how do I know if I love someone with the love that Christ takes delight in?

I would appreciate it if someone could answer my questions.

Choirgirl********** ABIDING***********John 15:1-8

[LIST
[/LIST] Abiding is a very beautiful word. I believe that once a person realizes this then assurance becomes a wonder of the past and a promise of tomorrow. I've taken the time to break down John 15:1-8, now I noticed that you had John 15:1-17 on the thread, so if you 9-17 drop me a line and I'll run them right over to the office/ I KID, okay let's chase this Rabbit.

*JN 15:1: First let me say that this is the last place we see the great signature of our Lord as "I AM". That's Free.
I AM THE TRUE VINE- So the true bread, JN 6:32; that is, the most excellent.
MY FATHER IS THE HUSBAND-the great Proprietor of the vineyard, the Lord of the spiritual Kingdom.

*JN 15:2: EVERY ONE THAT BEARETH FRUIT, HE PURIFIETH- by obeying the truth, 1 PETER 1:22; and by inward or outward sufferings, HEBREWS 12:10,-11. So purity and fruitfulness help each other. HE PRUNES-God removes all things in the believer life that would hinder fruit bearing. MT 15:13 & RO 11:12.

*JN 15:3: CLEAN- All of you, to whom I now speak, are purged from the guilt and power of sin;
BY THE WORD- here we find the example in the text itself JN 15:7 but also in JN 17:17; & EPH 5:26. That he might sanctify them and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. * which when is applied by the Spirit, is the grand instrument of purifying the soul.

*JN 15:4- Here's a great yard stick for those asking themselves "am I really a Christian. We must do the things that Jesus did, Walk like Him, Talk like Him, and Do like Him. 1 jn 2:6- He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked. Where did Jesus walk? 1 jn 1:7- But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light; when we talk like He talked the idea is in Prayer:MT 6:5-14 (SERMON ON THE MOUNT), Do like Him, we must be about the fathers business, what business? PRAISE AND GLORY, PHP 1:11b.

*JN 15:5-ROMANS 6:5: For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection. A part of our faith has to be in the resurrection, and when we have faith in that, we are abiding in Him.

*JN 15:6-Here our Lord tells us the use for things that He dose not abide in: The one proper use of the vine is to bear fruit; failing this, it is good for one thing------- FUEL (LOOK AT EZE 15:1-15). How awfully striking the figure, in this view of it.

*JN 15:7-Prayers themselves are a fruit of faith, and they produce more fruit.

*JN 15:8-Worthy of the name. To be a disciple of Christ is both the foundation and height of CHRISTIANITY.

I'll pray that this help's you. Just the research and the key tapping lifted my spirit tonight. Its a great privilege to be able to share the Gospel of our Lord Jesus. May he bless you in all that you do. YORT (TROY):shade:

To abide is to stay in, to live in. It is my greatest joy to be found abiding in Christ. It is my only source of life and strength; that life and strength flows in and through me causing me to grow and bear godly fruit. It is His life flowing in me that reveals Christ's purpose and life in me.
To abide in that Vine is to remain in Christ as I walk, work, go to school, love, learn, etc. He is to be the center of all we do and are.

Thank you so much, both of you, for your kind replies.

Galatians 5:22-23 talks about the fruits of the Spirit

My problem is: I don't feel love. My heart is cold as a stone and I don't think it should be that way. Sorry if that creeps you out..

I believe I'm saved by God's grace. Am I too based on my feelings? I feel I'm missing out.

The fruits of the Spirit

Galatians 5:22:But the fruits of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith;

*Fruit-Metaphorical, very frequent in the N T as Matthew 3:8;7:16;John 4:36;15:8; Romans 1:13;6:21 etc. We find fruit of light Ephesians 5:9; of righteousness Philippians 1:11; of labor Philippians 1:22; of the lips Hebrews 13:15; almost always of a good result.
*Love- is the leader of the band 1 Corinthians 13:1-13.
*Gentleness-Greek, benignity, conciliatory to others; where as 'goodness', though ready to do good, has much suavity of manner [Jerome], Alford translate, 'Kindness'.

*I'm going to throw it out there with just Love and Gentleness based on the fact that you brought up the issue with the heart.

**Love----It would have been enough to mention only the single fruit of love, for love embraces all the fruits of the spirit. In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul attributes to love all the fruits of the spirit: Charity, suffering long, and is kind, etc. Here he let's love stand by itself among other fruits of the spirits to remind Christians ( ME AND YOU ), to love one another, " in honor preferring one another," to esteem others more than themselves because they have Christ and the Holy Spirit within them.
See just because you think there's nothing happen we have to understand its a process, some quicker than others

**Gentleness----Gentleness is the conduct and life. True followers of the gospel must not be sharp or bitter, but gentle, mild, courteous, and soft spoken,( it is amazing when we hear some Christian saying such things as I'm not a door mate, or I'm not going to take that), look at what Christ took, the sc urging, the Cross, we'll never go through something like he did, maybe close, but he took upon Him all sin, THATS RIGHT, we won't even get close, HELLO, I've got to stop I feel a sermon. We should encourage others. Gentleness can overlook other people faults and cover them up. Gentleness is always glade to give in to others. Gentleness can get along with forward and difficult persons, according to the old pagan saying, "You must know the manners of your friends, but you must not hate them." Such gentle person was our Savior Jesus Christ, as the gospel portray's Him. Of Peter it is recorded that he. Wept whenever he remembered the sweet gentleness of Christ in His daily contact with people. Gentleness is an excellent virtue and very useful in every walk of life.

*i thought it was inspiring on paper but that s a soul lifter, right off the floor. Hay love yourself, take hold of the Jesus in you and excel to the heights, and width, the deeps and the endless glories of His riches. Remember He DIED ON THE CROSS FOR YOU AND I. May God bless you, and we'll be praying for you. YORT ( TROY ).

Luk 12:32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Joh 17:13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

My friend, press in towards God. The world in which we live constantly bombards us with negative emotion and unkindness. It is no wonder we get numb.

Just remember Christ is always the answer and He is everything you need. Spend and hour or two in worship and time in prayer. Sow to the Spirit and that wall will come down. We were created to fellowship with God and that is His greatest desire for you. Believe that as you pour out your heart to Him knowing He is willing and able. His joy will become your strength and His love fill your mind and heart.

Joh 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
Joh 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
Joh 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
Joh 17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
Joh 17:25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
Joh 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

I would just add to the other´s:

Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
Romans 11:18-23 (KJV)

The Holy Spirit of Truth speaking through Paul is referring to Israel as an example for us to learn by; which ends up right back to Christ, that without Him we can do nothing.
