It's interesting, the very first commandment God gave man was...
Gen 1:28; God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
Psa 127:3; Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Psa 127:4; Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth.
Psa 127:5; How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.
Some people because of medical and biological conditions are unable to have children.
It's funny Paul mentions that he wishes some were not married like himself, ( 1 Cor 7:8; ) yet he talks more about marriage than anyone else in the Bible. ( Rom 7:2-3; 1 Cor 7:1-39; Eph 5:22-29; etc.. ) also Heb 13:4;
Paul even warns Timothy about men who don't want to get married.
1 Tim 4:3; men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.
1 Tim 2:15; But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.
Now of course some people never marry. Paul seems to think this is OK. Others who marry are unable to have children.
But then we have those who are married and don't want children. This could be for many different reasons, but most often
I feel it is because of selfishness.
1. Children are too much trouble.
2. Children cost too much money.
3. Children will interfere with my career path.
4. Children will take time away from my hobbies and friends.
As a parent of 4 children, I can tell you they are trouble and they cost money. But is that really a reason not to have any?
Jesus wasn't too busy to spend a little time with children. ( Matt 19:13-15; )
Many people say they want to get established in their careers and get their education behind them first. There's nothing wrong with that, however statistics show the later people wait to children, the less likely they are to ever have them.
The fact is fewer and fewer Americans are having children, especially those in professional white collar careers.
Divorce is so prevalent in our society today that many don't want to have children "to raise alone". I wonder sometimes if the reasons some marriages fail is because people go into them thinking they will fail before they even get married.
God hates divorce ( Mal 2:16; ) but I also wonder sometimes if he disapproves of people who don't want children for the wrong reasons?
