Please can you help me understand something .... (this isn't easy to share but I realise that I need to work this out ...)

When God told Moses that he was to go to Pharaoh - Moses asked questions and then Moses said please send someone else - and brought up the issue of him being slow of speech.

At this point God got angry.

I had not really thought deeply about why God got angry - until lately i've been realising that I too make excuses and struggle with feelings of inadequacy/self-consciousness and therefore am unwilling to put myself in a position of doing things for God although I know that's what i ought to be doing.

I don't want to make God angry.

But I acknowledge now that this has been happening for a long while and I'm not sure how to move forward and I want to understand more about the character of God.

I realise that someone may say 'just do something' but sometimes when i've stepped out, I've still wrestled with difficult emotions or thoughts afterwards and so i've retreated again.

Why was God angry with Moses when maybe what was happening was that Moses was wrestling with feelings of inadequacy or self-consciousness?

Blessing Halva! What God is looking for us to realize,is to look at oursleves no through what we see, feel, hear, but rather Halva though a supernatural screen.

One he sees, one which reveals TOTAL Truth, not just what we know in part.( 1 Cor 13:9-13) As Moses grew in LOVE!! ah!! Moses began to learn! This we are to do.Would Jesus ever give you a task you could not do?? no, that would not be love, but sometimes what is set before us,like was set before Moses,we do not think we can do this!!

LOL Do you know what?? WE are right!! we cannot!! Check out Good Old Moses in Exodus 4!! why he had more excuses then carter has pills why he could not be the one!! LOL 4:1 what if? next Moses says he does not speak well verse 10,answer verse 11!!-12 Now verse 13!! After the Lord has told Moses not once!! but twice!! I ME!! I WILL DO this!! MOSES still!! didn't get it! Moses was saying here, even with you doing all this, yet no one is standing by my side I can see!! So I really want that!! That is why the Lord's anger burned against Moses, but!! God full of compassion as well!! said! OK take Arron verse 14,and then again!!! for the FORTH time!! God tells Moses I will be with your mouth!! verse 15! Do you see something here which is just a powerful as faith Halva??

Amen the POWER of UNBELIEF!! which we do not want to partake of ever!! God said it,I believe it,and that settles it!! amen! That is love and faith! Hope this helps you Halva!! Of course you know this is not a rebuke to you!! This is LOVE, this WE learn from! why?? so we halva can speak,Exodus 14:13-14 Moses just needed to do one more thing!! ACT!! on his Words he recevied form the Lord himself! That is what Gods told him in verse 15!! we speak,we believe, what we speak, and if we believe what we speak in God, we MOVE forward in his Mighty name!! amen! blessing to you always through our Jesus!

Brighthouse, i appreciate the reply you've given and having thought about it a bit more and unbelief - i just wondered if as well as acting, stepping out it would be a good thing to fast? I know that we are expected to fast and its a good thing, but I haven't been altogether sure when its needed. Thanks :)

An excellent question!!Remember this?? Matt 6:16 Whenever you fast, not IF we fast. Now here from the Word himself is the reason, and what a fast does. Isaiah 58:6-12 When I began, I fasted at least once a week,no food or water, stayed in prayer and reading of the Word period!!

No TV,no family no friends,Just Jesus and me!no computer either!! LOL Now God will honor any faith you give him!! Hebrews 11:6 But he wants all,not part, please also remember this.Because if I said anything other then this, then I would be judged hashly because of it!

I want no blood on my hands!! My you search and find what is needed from Jesus to you!! Blessing to you always!!

Submit the Flesh

Halva,

The best way to grow in understanding of the character of God is by reading the Scriptures and also growing in how to learn to hear God's voice or being led by the Holy Spirit. As the Lord leads you into His ways and guides you through the Scriptures, and anything else He may show you throughout your day (applying His Truth to it -
John 16:13; Isa. 11:2) - than you will grow in understanding His character more.

The main reason why the Lord got mad at Moses is because He was dealing with the fleshly (or carnal nature) of mankind (the sinful nature). And, the Lord works with the spirit. So, by handling it this way He is actually submitting the fleshly nature under His authority and making it weaker, so that Moses may become stronger by the Lord's power. This is the same thing that occurs when we yield ourselves to the leading of the Holy Spirit. The more we grow in hearing and obeying; the more He grows inside of us (His Spirit and His authority). Therefore, this leads to ultimately submitting the fleshly nature of man under Him and we grow in victory and overcoming what held us back due to sin - we no longer deal with things as we used to. The Scripture about God dealing with Moses in this way reminds me of how Jesus dealt with His disciples before He was crucified (Matthew 26:40-41). The key in this passage is Jesus told them to 'watch and pray.' In other words be looking and discerning by His Spirit (through His eyes) and talk to the Lord on how to handle it - not just tell Him everything you want to say, but listening also to His ways of handling it. Afterall, Jesus is the one that overcame death, so by listening and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us, we too can overcome.

Thanks j_sp - I am grateful to God for bringing me your reply - it helps too to be referred to Matthew and to hear your explanation.

Blessings,

I wouldn't say that God was angry with Moses, but simply frustrated that Moses didn't understand that God didn't care about his infirmities and excuses. Jesus also said harsh things to his disciples when they didn't seem to understand, but he was expressing his frustration and not saying that the disciples were bad people. God's grace and forgiveness extends to all of us for everything.

It has been helpful for me to also notice that Moses (and other prophets) argued with God, and God changed his mind (like when God wanted to punished Israelites and Moses talked him out of it). We can't take a few Bible verses here and there and apply them to ourselves as literal truth, without any conversation with God. Prayer is conversation with God, and we discover many things this way, especially we discover God's grace this way.

God is never angry with you for anything. He is ready with his grace, if you will only accept it, nothing is beyond God's grace no matter what. God completely understands our inadequacies and excuses, and he gives us the grace of forgiveness even before we realize it.

Remember, Jesus said the entire Old Testament is summarized by the Great Commandments: Love God, and love your neighbor. We see that in the interaction between God and Moses, even when God was frustrated with Moses, God responded in a reasonable and loving way (though also quite insistent).

Dear Konquistador,

I agree with that God wasn't saying that Moses was a bad person, but he definitely got angry because of his Moses' response -it clearly says it in Exodus 4:14. I believe God does get angry sometimes with his children and lately have experienced a time myself which I am not proud of when God, who is ALWAYS righteous, good and just, let me know that He was cross with me so that I would repent and change.

See Hebrews 12:5-11, 1 Corinthians 11:32 and Revelation 3:19.

God bless,

Halva
