Twice dead, the beast that was, and is not, and that shall go into the second death.

We are shown a mystery in the Revelation of a beast that was, and is not, and that shall go into perdition. I believe this is speaking of those who are "twice dead", let me explain by the words of God.

It is written in Jude 1:12 “These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, "twice dead", plucked up by the roots;”

Notice in the above, these trees once had fruit but it withered and died. This verse to me also speaks of the falling away from the faith, those who were once alive to the flesh without the law, then later died spiritually because of the knowledge of sin; but were then made alive in Christ by spiritual rebirth; but who would eventually turn back and fall away back unto sin and into perdition, or the second death.

The order should be alive, dead, and alive again forever more as was also shown with Christ.

Notice in Revelation 1:18 “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”

This is much like the prodigal son in Luke 15:24 “For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.” Alive "again" suggests he was alive once before he became aware of sin by the law and died spiritually, or was lost being dead in trespasses and sin. And this is what Paul shows in Romans 7:9 “For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.”

Paul also said “Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.” So again we see this order, alive once before the law, the law exposed our sin and we died (dead in our sins) but then Jesus became sin for us, and we were made alive again by the resurrection from the dead through Jesus Christ. So you have alive, dead, and alive again forever more in Christ.

So to me, in order to be "twice dead" you would have to be alive, dead, alive again, but then fall away to the second death.
Now here is what is interesting. The lake of fire is shown as "the second death" in scripture. Revelation 20:14, Revelation 21:8.

And we also know by scripture that the first resurrection and judgment begins with the house of God, or the saints as shown in 1 Peter 4:17 ; and the rest of the dead are not judged until after the thousand year reign of Christ. But we also see prior to the first resurrection and judgment, the one head of the beast that was dead and did live; and also the false prophet spirit who would have power to give life to the image of the first beast which came out of the bottomless pit. But what I want you to notice is they are both cast alive into the lake of fire =second death.

Revelation 19:20 “And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that
worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. = second death.

Keep in mind the beast that comes up out of the earth (false prophet image) makes an image to the first beast and has the power to give life to the image, this being one of the heads that was on the 7 headed beast that was dead, but was healed, or made alive again.

So that one head that had the deadly wound but was healed (made alive again) is the beast that was of the previous 7 and will go into destruction with the false prophet spirit that made his image alive again.
Notice “And the beast that was,(was alive) and is not,(is dead) even he is the eighth, (made alive again) and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.”= second death.

Notice not all the heads (beasts) go into the second death (lake of fire) at the first judgment, but only this one beast that was brought back to life and the false prophet spirit.

And again notice this is the first judgment….

Daniel 7:9-12 “ I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, the and the books were opened.
11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake (false prophet spirit) I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. (second death)
12 As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.”

So the other beasts, or heads, on the global beast system had their lives prolonged; at least until the second resurrection and the second judgment.

So Here is my conclusion, the head that was dead and was healed, whose image was also made alive again by the false prophet, was alive before his deadly head wound by the sword of the Lord. Therefore he was alive, dead, and his image is brought back to life again, but goes into the second death.

Revelation 17:8 The beast that thou sawest was,(was alive) and is not;(is dead) and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit,(revived again) and go into perdition: (second death)

Revelation 17:11 “And the beast that was,(was alive) and is not,(is dead) even he is the eighth, (revived again) and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.” (or the second death) So that would be twice dead.

This resurrection from the bottomless pit has to be symbolic and spiritual because the Lord is the only one who has power to
bring back to life the physically dead. And this event is said to happen before the first resurrection. And I see no instance in the scriptures where the Devil or evil men have raised back up the physically dead to life.

Therefore I conclude this beast being raised back up from the bottomless pit is speaking of spiritual things. Like sin being revived in the world, and in those who proclaim to be alive from the dead, but are really spiritually dead because they had fallen back to sin. Like Paul said , sin was revived and I died.
Also Like in Revelation 3:1 where Jesus said “I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.”

Notice this in Revelation 11:18 “And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.”

So why are the beast and the false prophet judged at this time, and why do they go directly into the second death? And who are the dead that are being judged in the first resurrection, if the first resurrection is of the saints only? It is written, judgement starts with the house of God, so this is something to ponder on.

Revelation 20:5-6 “But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”

Peace and God bless

Hebrews 10:37-39

King James Version

37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.”
