A friend has recently lost his wife to cancer and is deeply grieving.

The trouble is, he is a Christian but she was not. Now he is distraught that she must be in hell so he will never be with her again. He cannot bear that though he understands. He loved her so much he cannot find any peace.

What can I say to comfort him? This is what people face if one has given their soul to Jesus Christ and the other never has.

Hi Christina, this is an awful situation and one that we all face; we all of us have siblings, children and close friends that stubbornly hold onto their disbelief.

We look at verses like Luke 16:27-31 and gulp but really we need to not make assumptions and judge our loved one but think positively, hope that they had a rethink, turned and repented in the last few seconds. Luke 27:38-43.

Let's not judge another's faith but instead thank God that through your example He was able to reach out to them and hopefully, they responded.

God bless you dear sister x

Hello @Christina2000,

Your friend can rest at ease for there is no consciousness in death, and his wife is therefore not suffering, and is oblivious to the passage of time. She will be raised to judgment, and stand before God to give account, yes, and He Who knows the secrets of men's heart and is therefore able to judge justly, will do so: and He alone will determine what the outcome of that will be. (See Romans 2, esp. v.16)

Leave her in God's hands, for He will be Just.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

There are probably many who turn to God just as they die, and their heart makes that connection and responds in the right way (in giving repentance of sins and in receiving forgiveness, in Christ) because God knows the heart inside out.
The Holy Spirit intercedes and can even within a split second, when its sudden. I've heard this is evidenced by those who have seen people dying or die.
Who knows and your friend can pray to give the burdon to God. That in return he will be released and have peace of mind.
