"Then the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger [some] of the oil that [is] in his left hand seven times before the LORD. "And the priest shall put [some] of the oil that [is] in his hand on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, on the thumb of the right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot, on the place of the blood of the trespass offering. "The rest of the oil that [is] in the priest's hand he shall put on the head of him who is to be cleansed, to make atonement for him before the LORD. "And he shall offer one of the turtledoves or young pigeons, such as he can afford--"such as he is able to afford, the one [as] a sin offering and the other [as] a burnt offering, with the grain offering. So the priest shall make atonement for him who is to be cleansed before the LORD."such as he is able to afford, the one [as] a sin offering and the other [as] a burnt offering, with the grain offering. So the priest shall make atonement for him who is to be cleansed before the LORD. Leviticus 14:17-31 NKJV
Three times in today’s reading, the Lord uses the phrase “So the priest shall make atonement for him” in reference to the person who needed to be cleansed. He had to present himself to a priest for examination every time he contracted leprosy, boils, sores, or burns from a fire. And if he was found to be a leper he had to shout, “Unclean! Unclean!” before being put out of the camp to dwell alone.
What if you had to present yourself to a minister every time you appeared to be unclean, spiritually speaking? And after being examined and found guilty, you had to shout, “Unclean! Unclean!” before being put out of the church? It seems harsh, but in reality, God is holy and He required justice for sin.
Praise God, Jesus stepped into the gap and made you clean. Even so, every time you sin, you can turn to Him and declare yourself guilty and then have full confidence that He’ll be faithful and just to forgive you. Jesus is your Priest. Make it a habit of conversing with Him daily, asking Him to wipe your slate clean.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for sending Your Son to make me clean in Your sight. May I never desire to shy away from Him when I have sinned.
