He would have given.....Living Water...John 4 - 10

Notice that it did not depend upon the lady's merit. Grace is the kindness of God poured out when there is no deserving of it: and this woman was without thought of God or any other desire except that of her own satisfaction.

Yet it was for her that Jesus turned out of His way, in order that he might give her divine life..... and satisfaction. And if Jesus was prepared to do this for a lady having no other intention than to satisfy herself: how much more then.....for those of us who know and trust in Him?

But how many Christians hesitate to draw near to God because they think that God requires good-works with which to commend ourselves to Him. Many Christian workers get down hearted, and discouraged, and begin to feel unable to turn to God in prayer. They feel they must break through by their own efforts, and merit a divine 'well-done' before they will be able to ask in honesty for Gods help.

No:: Gods Salvation from both past and from present sin, from difficulty, discouragement etc. is not given because of what we are.

It is His gift

Nothing in my hand I bring
Simply to thy cross I cling
Naked come to thee for dress
Helpless look to thee for grace

That must be the continous attitude of the believer throughout our sojourn, and Christian Life.....Gods riches and such living water as the fulness of God's Spirit, can never depend upon our merit.

As with this lady long ago..... God is waiting to supply all our need to the uttermost limit.........now, and completely, .. apart from any ability we may have..... or natural achievement.
