HR 1913, a bill that is supposed to protect American Citizens from "hate crimes" has a *terrible glaring error* in it that may extend protection to pedophiles and people practicing incest!
Section 909 offers Federal protections to people for the sake of sexual orientation, but in NO WAY defines what a sexual orientation is.
This open-ended wording leaves us with the current convention of turning to the APA (American Psychiatric Association) for definitions of sexual orientations which would then be protected by this law.
They currently recognize over 30....
That list includes (among others):
Pedophilia, Incest, Bestiality, Sadism, Necrophilia, Kleptophilia (arousal from stealing), and any of a dozen other bizarre and (for now) illegal practices.
Unless the law is amended to *specifically* define which orientations will be protected (they were aiming to protect homosexuality and bisexuality obviously) and which will not, the current blanket wording would overturn *all* state and local laws forbidding these practices and offer up dangerous "freedom" for a lot of really sick people.
---
If you think our children deserve better than to lose their personal security to predators who may one day be able to stalk them while claiming that it was just their "natural orientation" to do so -- get in contact with your Senator before this bill goes any farther!
