Hey everybody, here is an issue I have been dealing with for a while now. Im a huge fitness guy, working out 6 days a week with the hopes of being a great strength trainer one day. My question is though, can we use our bodily appearance and abilities as a way to Glorify God?? Your input on this matter would be greatly beneficial!

God Bless

Until we inherit, if ever, we are stewards of all that God has put under our control. This, of course, includes this veil of flesh. Taking care of it is therefore very important, but we should not lose our perspective. The following verse does, I believe, speak of the most important things in serving God:

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matt 6:33

Always put first things first and everything else will fall into its proper place!

May I ask @sergent

In your profile you say you are female

But in this thread you say you are a a guy

So I'm a bit confused?

My question would be what are your motives in wanting to use your bodily appearance and abilities?

But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world..
Galatians 6:14

Haha sorry about that. I am a guy and I will fix it shortly in my profile. But when I first got hooked into fitness, it was for sports mostly but at that time I was lost and did not have Jesus in my life. During this time I was very prideful and was not seeing things very clearly. Since Iv been saved though, there is a lot less pride involved in my pursuit of physical fitness and I figured I could turn my passion for this into a way to Glorify God. Kind of a "Look what the temple of God is capable of becoming" thing. And I also firmly believe that we should take care of the body He has given us. What do you think? @Fragrant Grace

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Galatians 5:25-26

Greetings brother @sergent

Thank you for clarifying your gender

Yes I agree that we should all take care of our bodies and not abuse them.

But to glorify our earthly bodies in anyway is a prideful thing as is your statement "Look what the temple of God is capable of becoming"

Only our beloved Lord is alone worthy of glory and honour
Our frail earthly bodies are but dust
And one day soon will will be changed to be like Him
And we will worship and adore Him and see His beauty

If you are strong due to your physique you could use your strength in some way to help and serve people in need

Bless you brother

Thine eyes shall see the King in His beauty
Isaiah 33:17

1 Timothy 4:8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

There is value in what ever God gives you to do if you do it as unto God and not for men.

When you gain respect among a group of people with similar interests and you exhibit behaviour that they find pleasing they are more likely to take you seriously when you explain what you believe and why.
Just like Tim Tebow's opinion holds weight to at least some collage football fans.
Fans love him or hate him.
However all will be silent when he speaks.

So who is God going to sent to the bodybuilding community?

1 Corinthians 9:20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the Law;
1 Corinthians 9:21to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law.…
1 Corinthians 9:22To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.

To answer your question...yes! God is the one who gave us our bodies and talents, strengths and endurances. So long as you work out for yourself (not to impress others) and give God the glory. God wants us to take good care of our bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Maybe meditate on some Scripture while working out? And thank Him for everything.

Absolutely. God lives in our hearts and through our bodies, we glorify His name by serving others. For example, a fitness instructor who exhibits a healthy lifestyle serves God by inspiring fellow Christians to live a healthy lifestyle as well. A football player who conditions himself physically so he can play a good game serves God by using every bit of his body to give it his best. We all have different abilities. If some can praise God through music, some can praise God through their physiques.
