i sometimes have difficulty knowing when it is God speaking to me, or my own mind. Sometimes, i get it clearly, but i usually have trouble. How can i tall when it is God speaking to me and how can i grow more attuned to it?

First we need to realize that if it is God speaking to us it will always line up with the Word of God. Remember the whole Bible is God's word to us and speaks to us through the Word.
The Lord speaks in the book of Revelation and says "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches." We are to hear the voice of God through the still small voice of the Holy Spirit that dwells within us.
A great verse is from the prophet Jeremiah that I read the other day reads "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." (Jeremiah 33:3)
Jesus Christ said this "Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." (John 14:17)
"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." (John 14:26.)
So we are to know it is the Holy Spirit through the still small voice by it agreeing with the Word of God and as you trust in the Lord and obey the voice of God, the voice will become more clear.
Jesus said "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27)
Once you know the voice of God, you will always follow that voice. You are right we sometimes hear our own voice, most of the time it is when we want something from the flesh, and not necessarily what the Lord wants.
As I said, the more time you spend with the Lord and communicate, you will then get to know the voice of the Lord and when it is him speaking.
