Hey Kit; your response was very good, and I can add nothing to it.
I do have a question. Do you think a person can have a gun (20gage) to protect the family? We have a 20gage and a 22 rifle. We have used it for ground hogs and other pests. But wewould defend our self if required, because we live in a very isolated area.
We have had some say that to have a gun is not good.
Whats your or anyone elses opinion?
Good Morning:
When I first got out of the military I was a police officer for a short while. It was the only job I was qualified for and when I went to the unemployment office they said, we have just the thing for you.
In the course of this job and this duty we got into a shooting firefight with two men who had held up the local quick stop store and had killed the woman and her daughter who owned and ran the store. Myself and my buddy responded to the call and in the course of the results both men were killed. My buddy was sick over it. His church told him he was going to go to hell for killing people. He ran around for two weeks with no ammo in his side arm. Told me he would rather die than kill. He was in extreme torment with himself and with listening the the false fears others were placing upon him.
He quit the job a week or so later and took a job with a electrical company , he is ok with it all now, but at the time he was very confused and full of fear , as he listened to his church and their fears. I quit myself a bit later also, not due to this, but due to the politics and having to sell ones soul to keep the job. Important and rich and people with power do as they will, and to keep the peace you have to accept and look the other way......that never has fit me.
I carry a Sig .45 much of the time. I live and work in an area where daily we have very serious violent crime. A great many drug issues and we have things from simple hold ups to home invasions. I am now a plumber, self employed and there are some areas in Columbia I simply choose not to go to. Some people live in such fear that when you ring their doorbell and enter their home they look outside and fearfully lock their door behind me, and each time I must to to the service truck to get something, again the door is locked up. The thugs case the service truck, looking for an opportunity to steal, and will take the opportunity to do more if given the chance. I sometimes turn down work due to the area the work is in. No need to put oneself in a bad situation if there is no need. Money is not that important. As long as I can buy a burger and go fishing and help someone once in awhile, I am happy. Besides to lose tools and the means of making a living can be a result and they are , last year a fellow who mows yards and cleans up they beat him, left him for dead and stole his truck, trailer, mower and all his tools. This was work for a property management firm and we all knew it was a rough area, I would only go there between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sometimes I would request a police officer to go with me.
Yes owning a firearm is fine. To protect yourself, your family and others is fine. Just be very aware of all of mans laws and ways, as a high degree of common sense and a calm nature is required. Mans laws are kinda like Gods laws, if it is not a threat, do not treat it as one, in other words if the thug has stolen and is running down the street , let him go. If he is coming at you with a knife or three of them are around you and show full intent of harm.......send them to see God. You are the instrument of action.
Churches somehow have become passive, tolerant, fully accepting and will not even speak out against visible sin. They sit and say let God take care of it. They forget God wishes us to take care of our own society. It is by his written word, his moral values and his law that we are to live by.
Now long ago some very violent actions were taken by God, but they are and were very justified. There were various reasons for them but mainly they were to combat sin, corruption and idol worship and the sacrifice of children to false gods. God is the same, he never changes and we see by his word that he does exact judgement and will one day judge the entire world. If you are outside of the simple laws of kindness, decency, honesty, you are in serious trouble because God does not play games.
Yes to be armed , to own a weapon, and if need be to use this weapon in your defense or the defense of others is cool with God. If done so in the circle of the moral laws of God, they made the choice to conduct their actions, and their sin is their downfall.
Thou shall not Kill. Means not to kill in sin, for greed, for lust, for want of what another has, and other sin.
To kill in your own defense or to protect the ones who need protection at the time is commanded by God. We are not to simply be walking down the street and see some thugs beating up an old lady and simply turn the other cheek and say.........let God take care of it!!!
We are not to accept sexual immorality and say ......let God take care of it......we are to speak up, and push it away.
In all many things accepted today, we have become too passive, we have simply sat and become silent.
Now much of this is now beyond our control, it has progressed to the point that laws of government are against the laws of God, but they are the laws of the land, and God tells us we have to live within them to avoid the punishment of this modern way. But we can peacefully speak against them, and for sure in our own hearts not accept them.
As for the view of Jesus........he told them to go buy some swords.........Peter sliced off an ear.........you see it is to be peaceful, meek, understanding, do all you can do to avoid. But when the evil is intent on your demise, then it is time for evil to be overcome if possible.
Respectfully
Kit
