with protests coming up (going down) in different corners of the globe, i cannot help but wonder if gandhian non-violent means can work in this day and age or does one have to take to violence. what's your take on this?

Tis a good dream. It could happen in the perfect world, if all would follow the will of God. As he has said, if all would turn from their evil he would heal all things. This would take the entire population following God, the people, the government all inclusive.

Not going to ever happen.

Jesus told us to be meek, to turn the other cheek. What he meant was to do all you can do to avoid conflict, to bend over backwards to keep the peace, to avoid violence if at all possible. But sometimes it is just not possible.

Governments are formed by the people, of the people, and they become corrupt, they let the people down, they oppress and kill the people and revolution is the result. Violence and destruction become a way of life. People are poor, no job, no work, no food, no hope, and it becomes violence.

There are people in this world who are totally evil, it is hard for us to even comprehend their mindset, us the good do not at all understand their mind, but they exist.

Daily where I live , some terrible crime is committed, on the world news daily many terrible crimes are committed, great violence. Recently a lady with two children in her SUV pulled up to the bank ATM to get some money and a man walked out from behind the little building, shot her four times in the chest, took the money and fled, the police killed him a few hours later in a gun battle.

We ourselves in this great country , look at the mess we have in Washington, look at the lies and the deceit. Look at how the word of God is pushed away and the ways of evil are not only allowed but encouraged. They become the normal, not the unusual. As the government is composed of the people and the people will not follow God, then the whole situation becomes what we have today.

As for following that Guandian religion, the self sacrificing one where you save yourself, it is a false religion. Peace and non violence are great things, but the next question would be did or do they enter into the next life held by the only living God?? That religion seeks the inner peace and philosophy of man. It credits man with the result. If you are good and obtain this you are reincarnated, if not you come back as a lizard.

Due to the rule of Satan on our earth, peace and harmony have to be maintained by violence at times.

Young men give their lives to try to keep the world peaceful, while governments of modern times seem to wish to create violence.

Satan walks this earth, there will be no peace till the story is done.

Hey Kit; your response was very good, and I can add nothing to it.

I do have a question. Do you think a person can have a gun (20gage) to protect the family? We have a 20gage and a 22 rifle. We have used it for ground hogs and other pests. But wewould defend our self if required, because we live in a very isolated area.

We have had some say that to have a gun is not good.

Whats your or anyone elses opinion?

I have no problem resorting to violence...if I have to and it leads that way. It is my last option, but stuff happens.

I have no guns (a baseball bat ) but would love a 44 magnum..."the most powerful hand gun in the world and would blow your head clean off" Dirty Harry~

I don't believe owning a gun is wrong for a Christian, on either religious or political grounds. Politically you have a second amendment right to be armed, and more importantly, biblically you have the right and duty to protect yourself and your family, even with deadly force if necessary. Not to mention armed homes are a deterrent to violent crime.

The word "sword" appears in over 400 verses in the Old and New Testaments. And if they had had the technology in those times to make a gun, the word "gun" would be in the bible instead of "sword".

Here's some passages that establish the right of a homeowner to use deadly force :

Exodus 22:2 "If a thief be found breaking in and be smitten so that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him".

The Mosaic Law definitely provided for family defense, deadly if necessary, even against a thief. Never mind against a murderer, rapist, or someone that might harm your children. As the victim you would not be able to discern (nor are you required to) whether or not the thief is intending to do more than just steal from you. As such you have the right to assume the criminal has the worst intentions in mind for you, and to act accordingly.

In the New Testament Jesus assumed the right of a man to defend his family by the use of his weapons in

Luke 11:21-22:

"When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils."

Peace in a man's palace or home is the result of being armed, not unarmed.

Proverbs 25:26
"A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a muddied fountain, and a polluted spring".

Certainly, we would be falling before the wicked if we chose to be unarmed and unable to resist an assailant who might be threatening our life. In other words, we have no right to hand over our life, which is a gift from God, to the unrighteous. It is a serious mistake to equate a civilized society with one in which the decent people are doormats for the evil to trample on.

We are also commanded to protect the weak (Psalm 82:4, Proverbs 24:11) and their households (Exodus 22:1-2). Even God's holy angels carried swords with them (Numbers 22:23,31, 1 Chronicles 21:16,27,30).

Hope this helps!

Good Morning:

When I first got out of the military I was a police officer for a short while. It was the only job I was qualified for and when I went to the unemployment office they said, we have just the thing for you.

In the course of this job and this duty we got into a shooting firefight with two men who had held up the local quick stop store and had killed the woman and her daughter who owned and ran the store. Myself and my buddy responded to the call and in the course of the results both men were killed. My buddy was sick over it. His church told him he was going to go to hell for killing people. He ran around for two weeks with no ammo in his side arm. Told me he would rather die than kill. He was in extreme torment with himself and with listening the the false fears others were placing upon him.

He quit the job a week or so later and took a job with a electrical company , he is ok with it all now, but at the time he was very confused and full of fear , as he listened to his church and their fears. I quit myself a bit later also, not due to this, but due to the politics and having to sell ones soul to keep the job. Important and rich and people with power do as they will, and to keep the peace you have to accept and look the other way......that never has fit me.

I carry a Sig .45 much of the time. I live and work in an area where daily we have very serious violent crime. A great many drug issues and we have things from simple hold ups to home invasions. I am now a plumber, self employed and there are some areas in Columbia I simply choose not to go to. Some people live in such fear that when you ring their doorbell and enter their home they look outside and fearfully lock their door behind me, and each time I must to to the service truck to get something, again the door is locked up. The thugs case the service truck, looking for an opportunity to steal, and will take the opportunity to do more if given the chance. I sometimes turn down work due to the area the work is in. No need to put oneself in a bad situation if there is no need. Money is not that important. As long as I can buy a burger and go fishing and help someone once in awhile, I am happy. Besides to lose tools and the means of making a living can be a result and they are , last year a fellow who mows yards and cleans up they beat him, left him for dead and stole his truck, trailer, mower and all his tools. This was work for a property management firm and we all knew it was a rough area, I would only go there between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sometimes I would request a police officer to go with me.

Yes owning a firearm is fine. To protect yourself, your family and others is fine. Just be very aware of all of mans laws and ways, as a high degree of common sense and a calm nature is required. Mans laws are kinda like Gods laws, if it is not a threat, do not treat it as one, in other words if the thug has stolen and is running down the street , let him go. If he is coming at you with a knife or three of them are around you and show full intent of harm.......send them to see God. You are the instrument of action.

Churches somehow have become passive, tolerant, fully accepting and will not even speak out against visible sin. They sit and say let God take care of it. They forget God wishes us to take care of our own society. It is by his written word, his moral values and his law that we are to live by.

Now long ago some very violent actions were taken by God, but they are and were very justified. There were various reasons for them but mainly they were to combat sin, corruption and idol worship and the sacrifice of children to false gods. God is the same, he never changes and we see by his word that he does exact judgement and will one day judge the entire world. If you are outside of the simple laws of kindness, decency, honesty, you are in serious trouble because God does not play games.

Yes to be armed , to own a weapon, and if need be to use this weapon in your defense or the defense of others is cool with God. If done so in the circle of the moral laws of God, they made the choice to conduct their actions, and their sin is their downfall.

Thou shall not Kill. Means not to kill in sin, for greed, for lust, for want of what another has, and other sin.

To kill in your own defense or to protect the ones who need protection at the time is commanded by God. We are not to simply be walking down the street and see some thugs beating up an old lady and simply turn the other cheek and say.........let God take care of it!!!

We are not to accept sexual immorality and say ......let God take care of it......we are to speak up, and push it away.

In all many things accepted today, we have become too passive, we have simply sat and become silent.

Now much of this is now beyond our control, it has progressed to the point that laws of government are against the laws of God, but they are the laws of the land, and God tells us we have to live within them to avoid the punishment of this modern way. But we can peacefully speak against them, and for sure in our own hearts not accept them.

As for the view of Jesus........he told them to go buy some swords.........Peter sliced off an ear.........you see it is to be peaceful, meek, understanding, do all you can do to avoid. But when the evil is intent on your demise, then it is time for evil to be overcome if possible.

Respectfully

Kit
