On the Cross, Jesus took our poverty to provide us with the riches of His grace. He became poor that we might be rich, which means abundant provision!

When did Jesus take on sin, sickness, the curse of the law, and poverty? On the Cross! He did this so we could receive health, righteousness, blessing, and prosperity. He took the punishment that belonged to us so that we could receive the blessings that belong to Him.

At Jesusbirth the three wise men gave Jesus gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Poor people do not have gold, or costly frankincense, and Myrrh.

Jesus was not lavishly rich, neither was he poor. He had everything needed to accomplish his Father's will on earth. He did have enough to give to the poor as was his custom.

The clothes he wore when he was crucified were high enough quality that the Romansoldiers through lots gambled to see who would get them instead of tossing them aside.

The"prosperity" preachers today have taken prosperity to mean something else other than what it was intended for. Having all your needs met whether physical or spiritual for your mission on earth is prosperity. You can take any teaching from the Bible and take them to the extreme which is never a good thing

One thing is for sure Jesus gave up the splendors of heaven to come to pit called earth, he gave up the kingdom of God for us. compared to heaven it was a big change, maybe poor is not the correct word but he gave it all up for us, including his life.

He wasn’t born in an inn,and I’m sure that gold was spent before he was grown.
But you may be right. It’s nothing to argue over.

If look up how expensive frankincense and myrrh were according to many schoolers in today's money along with the gold (which came in small wooden boxes weighing about 50 pounds) in today's money would be around 2 million dollars. So, no they could not have spent that much in 40 days.
Frankincense sold for around $500.00 a pound (in today's money) and myrrh around $4,000.00 a pound including gold valued at around $750,000 that would have made Jesus' family wealthy.

Yep, I do remember. A lot of people would rather Jesus be very poor, and their replies reflected that. I always post what I say here on my Facebook page first and then if the Lord leads me I post them here too. I would have just reposted from this forum, but I could not find them. I realize this is a heart-felt subject for you, Curtis, and rightfully so, as it is for me also.

When Paul said this, he was referring to Christ leaving His glory with the Father and through the incarnation becoming a man in this world. We can only imagine what He left behind with the Father to come here to this earth in poverty on our behalf. On the Cross He didn't become poor, He became the Conqueror of sin, releasing us from the bondage of Satan, at least for those who will believe.

When Paul said this, he was referring to Christ leaving His glory with the Father and through the incarnation becoming a man in this world. We can only imagine what He left behind with the Father to come here to this earth in poverty on our behalf. On the Cross He didn't become poor, He became the Conqueror of sin, releasing us from the bondage of Satan, at least for those who will believe.

We often hear the story of rags to riches here on earth, in Christs' case it was riches to rags. That is what Paul was referring to when he said,

"though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor."

Even though Jesus had what could call a lower standard. of living in his incarnation. Himself Was never poor as he . created all things by and for himself. Weather being in his physical body or in His Glory before he came to this earth every thing belongs to him.

We know for certain that when the three kings came to see Jesus they gave him gold, frankincense, and myrrh which were very expensive in those days.
The only reason why Mary did not provide a "lamb" for an offering at that time could be that the three Kings had not yet seen the young child Jesus.
This means the three Kings would not have seen Jesus until more than 40 days after his birth. The scriptures say Jesus was born and laid in a "manger" which was used to feed animals. When the three Kings came to see Jesus he was in a "house" not an "inn" where he was born.


Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

I think it's reasonable to believe that Jesus experienced poverty at many points in his life. The gold, frankincense and myrrh would probably have been sold fairly quickly to finance the family fleeing to Egypt. Life as a refugee is hard. Maybe times were good working as a carpenter. Assuming that Joseph his father died by the time his public ministry started, the family may well have been thrown into financial crisis when they lost their principal breadwinner.

During his three year ministry, Jesus must have given up any possessions, only keeping what could be carried from town to town by foot. In some places I'm sure he received lavish hospitality in some places (and we hear criticism of Jesus eating and drinking), in others it may have been pretty thin.

So my best guess is that it was a mixed bag of sometimes being comfortably off and sometimes going without.

If you look up how expensive frankincense and myrrh were according to many schoolers in today's money along with the gold (which usually came in small wooden boxes weighing about 50 pounds when one King gave a gift to another King) in today's money would be around 2 million dollars. So, no they could not have spent that much in 40 days.
Frankincense sold for around $500.00 a pound (in today's money) and myrrh around $4,000.00 a pound including gold valued at around $750,000 would total between 1 to 2 million dollars in today's money. That would make anybody wealthy no matter what time period they lived in.

He laid all of that aside and became man just as we are, becoming poor in nature to His previous dwelling place.

The word, "PEACE", in verse five means, "welfare, that is, health, PROSPERITY, peace" When did Jesus become poor so that we would have abundant prosperity? When did Jesus take our sins upon himself? On the cross. This was the place where the exchange of his poverty turned to our riches, and our sin became his, and where his righteousness became ours.
