It is very interesting that the bible accounts that the earth was formed out of the waters (When viewing the earth as the universe)

Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The void here could be seen as the blackness of space filled with translucent liquid (Water) and the spirit enters the translucent chamber (Moved) causing a chain reaction.
And matter was formed.
