Peter and John had been instrumental of God in the healing of a man who was lame from birth. The authorities didn’t like what they did, and they didn’t like that they were teaching the people about Jesus, and so they had them arrested and thrown in prison. And, on the next day, when they were questioned by the Council, Peter took this opportunity to speak with them about Jesus and to claim him as the Christ and as the Savior of the world.
“But when they had ordered them to leave the Council, they began to confer with one another, saying, ‘What shall we do with these men? For the fact that a noteworthy miracle has taken place through them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it will not spread any further among the people, let us warn them to speak no longer to any man in this name.’ And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to them, ‘Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.’” (Acts 4:15-20 NASB’95)
Amen! I just love that testimony of the apostles!!
So, do you realize that this is happening again today? In America it definitely is, not yet to the point of putting any of us, that I am aware of, in an actual physical prison, but there is a very powerful push to silence those of us who are teaching the gospel that Jesus taught, and that his New Testament apostles taught (in the correct biblical context). And who is wanting us silenced? Many pastors and denominational heads of “churches” who are marketing their “churches” (businesses) to the people of the world.
And why do they want us silenced? Because they are promoting a diluted and altered gospel message which appeals to human flesh and to the ungodly of the world, who include many professing Christians. And they have altered the gospel message to attract more people to their “church” gatherings so that they do not offend human flesh with the truth of God’s Word. And they have also altered the character of God/Christ and of his church, the body of Christ, and who they are and what they stand for.
And so it appears that the majority of what is called “church” here in America is promoting a cheapened form of the true gospel, which reduces the gospel message to just making a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, but does not include the necessity of us dying with Christ to sin, not just once, but in daily practice, and us walking in obedience to our Lord and to his New Covenant commands in holy living. For they call that “works salvation,” and so they discourage anyone from listening to what Jesus taught as truth.
All of this is moving in the direction of a one-world religion where people of all faiths come together as one in agreement with one another. This has been going this direction for quite some time now with more and more misrepresentations of the person of Jesus Christ, and of who he was and of what he did and taught, and of his gospel message, which is the same gospel taught by his New Testament apostles. The Christian faith has turned very ecumenical for quite some time now, which is against God’s Word.
But the truth that Jesus taught, and that his New Testament apostles taught, was that Jesus Christ, who is God, the second person of our triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – left his throne in heaven, came to earth, took on human flesh, performed all sorts of miracles and taught repentance and obedience to God as necessary components of genuine faith in Christ which gives us the hope of salvation from sin and eternal life with God. He taught that we must deny self, die to sin, and walk in obedience to his commands.
And he was hated by the religious authorities and people of influence in the temple of God and in the synagogues who opposed him and his ministry and his messages. And so they eventually had him falsely accused of wrong and hung him on a cross to die as a criminal. But in his death, he who had no sin became sin for us so that, when he died, our sins died with him. And when he rose from the dead, he rose in victory over sin and Satan. Thus, by faith in him, we can now die with him to sin and live for him in obedience to him.
So, God’s gift of salvation, and his gift of grace, and of faith in him, teach us that we must deny self, die to sin, in practice, and that we must walk in obedience to his commands, in practice. This is faith! This is God’s grace in action. This is the reason that Jesus died, to deliver us out of our slavery (addiction) to sin so that we will no longer make sin our practice, but so that obedience to God, which is what faith is, will now be our practice. For if sin is our practice, and not obedience, we do not have eternal life with God.
But this is not the message that is widely being spread and accepted today. This is the message which is being hated and discarded and falsely accused of being “works salvation.” But this has nothing to do with us, in our flesh, trying to be good enough to earn our salvation. This is us, by the Spirit, by faith in Jesus, walking in the faith and the salvation that our Lord already provided for us and gifted to us, which is not of our own doing. This is us, by the Spirit, living the life that God requires of those who profess his name.
So, when are opposed and persecuted, rejected, and cast aside as unwanted and as unnecessary because we speak the truth of God’s Word, and not the lies which are so popularized today, we need to have the same response as the apostles had. For we cannot stop speaking about what God has revealed to us through his Spirit and through his written word concerning his gospel message. We must continue to speak Jesus’ message of the gospel to the people. For if sin is your practice, you will not inherit eternal life with God.

Based off 1 Corinthians 9:16-10:13
Woe to me should I not preach Jesus.
I’m compelled to preach the full gospel.
I make myself a slave to ev’ryone
To win their hearts to Christ.
All this I do for my Lord Jesus,
And for the sake of His Name;
Do it for the sake of His gospel,
So that I, its blessings gain.
Scripture notates the sins of others;
Written down for us as examples
To keep us from setting our hearts
On evil as did those of old.
Do not worship other gods of man;
Do not give your hearts to them;
Not partake in immorality.
Do not test your Lord and King.
So, be careful if you think you are
Standing firm in your faith in Jesus.
God has given his word to warn us,
So through faith we will not fall.
No temptation has o’ertaken you
Except what is commonplace.
God is faithful to not let you be
Tempted past what you can bear.
He gives the way of escape.
