Hi there, @Johann,
Not really. Both play their part, but with the emphasis so much upon the functions of the left at present the importance of the part that the right plays is being undervalued to the detriment of the individual and society in general. With teenage suicides being a case in point, the internet being a major player in that.
Thank you for taking a look,
In Christ Jesus
Chris
Hello @Johann,
I have a grandson with Asperger's syndrome, and as is characteristic of those on the autistic spectrum, he has one passion which dominates his interest, and that is the history of the world wars, battle strategy and armaments. For such the left hand side of the brain dominates, which is why I began listening to these interviews on the difference between the left and right hand side of the brain, and what each contributes to the whole. I also bought the first of the books which Iain McGilchrist has written on this, but it is a difficult read, being way above me intellectually.
He asked for this interview, particularly, to express his concerns about the present dominance of the left hand side of the brain in our society, and the mechanistic nature of internet use, and the need to counter it with appreciating and actively allowing the right hand side of the brain to play a greater part in our lives, with creativity, and appreciation of nature etc., balancing the go-getting mechanistic nature of the left hand side. With social interaction, humanity, love for our fellow man, and time allowed to just take time out to enjoy our environment and think.
Young people are dying (literally) for the want of natural human kindly interaction, instead of the impersonal, very often cruel nature of a means of communication which has no boundaries, and no controls to prevent the damage caused by it. It (the internet) can be a useful tool if used wisely, but can be an enemy also, in the wrong hands.
Just my thoughts.
Thank you for listening
Within the love of Christ our Saviour,
our Lord and Head.
