All these are the twelve tribes of Israel. This is what their father said to them as he blessed them, blessing each with the blessing suitable to him. Genesis 49:28 ESV
The phrase “with the blessing suitable to him” offers three practical insights.
First, God wants to bless you through your forefathers, and in turn He wants you to bless your children and grandchildren. These blessings are rooted in God Himself and flourish best in godly family trees. That doesn’t mean that every branch is godly, but the more godliness, the better.
Second, God wants you to bless your children, nephews and nieces, and grandchildren in specific suitable ways. No two individuals have the same aptitude, the same potential, or the same opportunities. Yet each person is created in God’s image with a specific calling on this life. So, the pressure is off. You can encourage each one to discover how God has made them to work and serve and bless others.
Third, God wants you to bless the children in your family spiritually as well. While aptitudes may differ, you want to lovingly and earnestly pray for the salvation and spiritual growth and maturity of every member of your family. How happy the man whose loved ones worship the Lord wholeheartedly and love others well.
Prayer: Lord, transform me. This weekend, help me to bless at least one member of my family. Eventually, may I bless each one, I pray.
