What do I do with my worldy passion?

My worldy passion is cars, and I've had that passion since I was born. I would carry Hot Wheels around in my diaper and even got my degree in Automotive Technology. God created each and every one of us with a particular worldy passion. I feel like I'm idolizing when I spend a lot of time looking at parts and dreaming of how I want my car to be, yet this is a God-given passion. Should I deny my worldy passion and try to only have a passion for Jesus? I want to love Jesus above all else but my career is in cars so how do I deny that!?

Listen Man ? You decide your life and He gives the ministry. How HE wants you too use it ,is the Question?
Pray and fast and ASK HIM. Nothing wrong with loving our jobs .

But we do need to know How He wants us to live our lives.

God sent me back into the bars to preach His gospel after I was Born again. But I do not go to them now.

I see nothing wrong with this personally. He tell you what He desires for you.

Greetings @ThankJesus

You've answered your own question really .
I feel like I'm idolizing when I spend a lot of time looking at parts and dreaming of how I want my car to be
If you are feeling convicted that you are idolizing something....then don't fight that conviction. Commit it to the Lord and ask Him to reveal to you anything that is taking His place on the throne of your heart.....that you indeed love Jesus above all else.
Also dear brother ....
God created each and every one of us with a particular worldly passion.
I do not believe that this is correct. The Lord may give us gifts and talents to use for His glory but not "worldly passions"
Ask the Lord to lead and direct you in what He wants you to do in your life regarding cars.....He will, His word says so

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6

You might like to also consider what do people see of you in your life.....(this is something I've been challenged to do lately)
Do they know you for your love of the Lord....or for your love of cars?
Foe example, If you have a Facebook page....is it full of your passion for Jesus or your passion for cars?

May the Lord bless you brother as you seek to do His will in your life
Remember only Jesus matters.

God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross
Galatians 6:14

Thank you for your response! You're right, He doesn't give us all worldly passions, but talents and gifts, and some people truly devote their dreams and passions to serving Christ. So me saying "all" people have a worldy passion was incorrect. Most people I know do have a worldly passion. My mom's is interior decorating, my coworker's is R/C airplanes, my friend's is paintball, and so on. I'm not entirely sure all of them use their worldy passion for God's glory though, it's hard to think of just one of them to be honest. I know cars and worldly things will all pass away, and I can't take any of it with me to heaven. It's just really, really hard to imagine/realize one of the only things I can do for fun would turn out to be a temptation instead. That's just the way it is though. I'm tempted to spend time, money and energy on something that's worldy and will not being me the peace or satisfaction that Jesus offers.

1 Corinthians 10:31
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

This includes all, your passions, your work, you hobbies, even your good deeds.

Is there a way to bring glory to God with your car? Or is it bringing glory and pride only to you? You must choose and change accordingly.

I once was a champion chess player in high school and two colleges. I played on a traveling chess team also for a few years after college. I came to a point in my life where I understood that to get better I would have to be consumed with chess totally. I decided to give up the one thing in life that I was best in because it would hinder my life for God, family and work. It was the right thing for me to do.

You grow from the passions you have.

It is alright to have worldly possession, because you are on this Earth surrounded by them. But to dwell into dwell like an idol is a sin.
The question is how much do you devout your time and self to Jesus?
How much do you love him with all your heart, mind and soul?

If you are collecting lots of car materials, which is not good for Jesus gave a parable of a man who keeps worldly possessions. He torn down his barn to keep collecting more. How terrible when he looses his life, all that will go to a waste. But we should think of heavenly things above.

I have my worldly passions which is games. Before I was born again, i would dwell in them so much just going into gaming news and learning so much. But now I'm Born Again, there's time for God and time for games. It's because my potential is under games and I wish to become a game designer and work in the gaming industry.

God does not give us world passion but skills and talent. So your passion is cars which God gave to you. For people who wants to live their potential and what they can do, God gave it to them. That is why people are so good at what they do: doctors, physicians, mechanics, actors etc. They had that potential from young and eventually followed it into their career.
Not everyone needs to be a pastor or do work in ministry.

I would just suggest you fast to the Lord and cut off all communication with the world and cars. Fast in reading the bible and prayer to the world. I would suggest 7 days but I recommend 3 days. You need to prove to God, devil, world, spiritual realm that your love is for Christ, yet you have a passion for cars but it will not be your idol.
What you need to do or trying to do is to control your time with cars and more time with Jesus.

//god bless

Well everybody's case is different. It's not wrong for you to like cars or to work in that industry. Just make sure you don't like cars more than you love God.

If you normally spend a certain amount of spare time on cars everyday, make sure you also have dedicated time for the Word and pretty soon your interest in cars will be significantly reduced.

I think you might be able to look at your obsession with cars a little differently. Do we all have worldly desires? YES! Can we overcome them? YES!
However there are many children both male and female who lack father figures, responsible older siblings, and role models in general. No one is teaching them how to do basic things on cars like changing a tire, oil, brakes, and many other things.
Have you ever thought of starting a ministry at your local church with the youth and another mature believer? It might be a cool idea to purchase an older car and bring it to life. Or have youths or widows bring their cars over with trouble and teach/help others fix these problems.
There are so many ways that your stumbling block can actually be turned into a use for God. Pray to Him.
I suggest having another mature adult with you when working with youth or females to prevent anyone from making claims or any inappropriate situations from arising.

Thank you all so much for your replies! For the past week I have been in a state of spiritual decay. I've become depressed and bitter toward God, but The Holy Spirit has told me why this has happened and what to do.

I've been spending most of my energy (when I'm not at work) loving cars instead of loving Christ. I haven't been on The Word as much because of this, nor have I been listening for Christ to give me direction. It has just been ME ME ME. This has made me grow distant from where God wants my mind and heart to be at, which is with Him. I can still have my passion for cars, but I was making it #1 which is idolatry. I'm praying to Christ about this, putting Him first, and trying to be content with the way my car is.

Does the Holy Spirit speak to you about the similarities of chariot design and kingdom principles?
The Holy Spirit may say something like "up until now you have been naturally aspirated and fed by carburetors, but I want you to move into fuel injection with supercharging.Of course you will also need some better suspension(to take up the bumps from persecution that can arise do to his working in your life) so that this increased performance does not land you in the ditch".
With increased power comes increased heat and friction so you would also need adequate lubrication(oil is like mercy to engine bearings so we need to show more mercy in our lives to decrease resistance to the Holy Spirit that we might be able to bear the power of God working in our lives). Also the word of God is like water so we need an adequate cooling system by having a large capacity to absorb his word and to soak in the word and his love.

In my walk I have spun bearings due to lack of mercy and I have overheated so many times I can;t count and I have tasted my share of ditch-water. But the master technician tows me home and puts me on his lift (lifts me up in Jesus). He tells me what upgrades he will do to adjust for road and weather conditions and then its back out for another shakedown run.

I work on generators, inverters, switchgear and electrical systems in mobile applications.I have found I can explain kingdom principles to an electrician/mechanic easier than I can to an interior decorator or a policeman.

I have to believe God gave you joy in those things because they fit a plan that he has for your life.
Ask him why you have this desire, perhaps he will explain it to you,or he may ask you something.

In his presence is the fullness of joy so when we are operating in joy he is certainly not far off.
That is a good time to ask him.

Godspeed and peace brother.

Turn your will and your life over to Jesus' care on a daily basis and, over time, He will turn that passion in the direction He wants it to go.
