What do you call this type of music?

I've really been hit with a blow from God and it's within my soul and I absolutely love it.

I used to be a real metal fan, heavy metal, nu-metal even some death metal.

I have quite a music collection, all these artists are secular for sure and I've never really thought that this music could be wrong in any way.

I'm aware that metal music has many satanic influences and I know the message the artists portray aren't always what a Christian should expose themselves too.

The good news is, I have a love for local South African artists, especially the likes of bands such' as Sons of Trout (which is a comedic group), Tree63 (Christian) and Just Jinger, which has at least 2 Christian songs on each album.

The music I've been really listening to these past 5 months are things such as Josh Groban, Enya and really quiet music, even some Gregorian.

What do you call the music genre such as Josh Groban and Enya? Is it classical, contemporary or something else?

I just checked out Josh Groban and the song I like You raise me up sounds like a praise and worship song.

I just did a google search for you on enya.

This is some from the website I found. They said she was celtic also.

Thank you sister, I don't like the fact that it's linked to "new age", that's a no no, but the music does really have a peaceful sound to it.

I guess what I'm asking is what category of music does it fall under? It seems it leans against classical, but I have also seen it as contemporary.

I'd like to get more music such as this, because it makes me calm and I can work on the computer relaxed.

Ahh I absolutely love music! haha.

But first off, you are right, there are some metal bands with satanic influences, but honestly, the number is few. There are infact some christian, yes christian metal bands that you cant really understand their lyrics by listening, but if you look them up they make many refrences to God and such.

There are also some very amazing rock bands that are the same way. They arent really full out worship bands, but they do believe and it is evident in their lyrics.

Anyways! haha about your question, Josh Groban is amazing. And he is more of a classical type genre. Classical is amazing stuff. If you do a search on Enya it will say her genre is "New age music" ... which doesnt make sense lol. Its mostly instrumental, but who cares really, its good music so if you like it, keep on listenin!

oh and if you like those artists, you might like Sigur Ros. Theyre sort of a newer band from Iceland, its genre is "ambient". Very amazing stuff, you might like.

And also, you might enjoy Philip Glass - who composes very soothing music, its real quiet. And Stravinsky is more of a classical guy, but you might enjoy that too.

Your right, new age is a no-no. I listen to various secular rock groups myself. I'm trying to move away from them, but its not easy even when GOD is trying to help. Its hard to fully submit to Him and release from the music I've been listening to for over 20 years now (and I'm only 27!)

One thing to realize is rock n' roll's origin is easily from the devil. That is not to say that GOD can't work around that. We have various "rock" Christian groups even like Tree63 for example (if that's considered rock anyway).

I like Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up". His songs are worship songs if I'm not mistaken for the most part.

Continue asking the Holy Spirit to show you good worship songs brother. That's what I've been doing. Slowly, but surely you'll get some. That's why I posted a few threads in music forum asking others for suggestions

I really like the song "You Raise Me Up" and would say its definitely worship.

Praise and worship are the ones I like best. Not really into contemporary rap or anything loud.

OHOH! I almost forgot! Phil Keaggy is excellent. If you are into solo-guitarist projects, he is an amazing guitarist, and he also has quite a few worship songs if im not mistaken.
