Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:1-2 NKJV
Have you ever wondered if God hears your prayers? Have you doubted whether God is attentive to your needs? This is a common theme in the Psalms, as the writer struggles to reconcile God’s power with the dangers and injustices that come each day.
The answer to such struggles in the Psalms is to call out to God and patiently wait on the Lord. Don’t stop calling out to God even if you grow weary and fearful. While circumstances may suggest otherwise sometimes, God remains as the rock that His people can depend on in their time of need.
The life of faith can be challenging when the promises of scripture don’t match your circumstances. Perhaps today you are even relating to the words of this Psalm: “Lead me to the rock.” You may need to reach out to someone else for help and guidance to seek God’s strength and support. You surely can’t stand on your own, and so today may be the day to ask for help to stand on the solid ground of God’s promises.
Prayer: Lord, I trust that You are the steady, unmovable rock in my life. Expose the false sources of hope and security in my life so that I rely on You alone.
