Should you charge someone for something when you don't actually need the money?

I don't think so. Jesus said freely you have been given, freely give.

Matthew 10:8

Not to mention, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Luke 6:31

Nice Peace Seeker!! Very nice!! When we do give we give because we want to,not because we feel we have to. However we are bound!!! To LOVE!! James 2:14-18!) One day a brother in the Church whom I really do not care for much,he to me has a big mouth, always talking about himself, how important he is!! etc..

We have all seen these types of people. He needed a ride to a far place, all had some excuse or another not to be able to take,I had one to!! LOL As I looked to walk away from the brother I was stopped dead in my tracks by Holy Spirit, who said to me,do you love me mark? In my mind of course!! I said sure I do!! Then help that man, because no matter how you feel about this man,you represent me!

I show no favor( rom 2:11,acts 10:34) I did not come to judge, but to save! I understand Lord!! Smiling I went to the man I really do not care for,and said sure I will take you! He knew I did not care much for him,so he was taken back a little. As we drove, he had spoken how the Lord was working on him,and his mouth, and on his need to talk about self.

To make a very long story short! We prayed together, and now this man is one of the nicest people in our Church! I truly can love him now as my brother! He learned,I learned! Do you notice something even more important here?? When LOVE GIVES!!! LOVE receives!! If not from that person, sure enough from the Lord who made us!! So thanks to both Quenton and Peace Seeker!

This is a fantastic lesson on humility! Pride says, "why should I help someone like that", and then we quickly come to our senses and say, "oh yeah, that's why :embarasse, because I represent Christ and I cannot help but loving others as He has loved me". As long as I remember I am nothing without Christ, others around me will not look like "nothings" to me. That's not always easy to do, but with God's help I am getting better at it.

Unexpected love takes people aback, so that's the best time to hit them with it, when they're not expecting it! And what a nice payoff you got for that one simple act!! Absolutely, when love gives, love receives. Love never errs! Praise God that your love won that man over! Blessings to you, brother!

Good Question. No sure answer.

I will tell you a story, I am poor, but rich, in times past I was allowed to set things up so we could weather the storm of the great housing fall and I have started a new business in my same field. It is tuff, the government has both hands out wanting money and fees, mans way leads to the desire for money. It takes money to survive.

Sometimes in the past and in the present, when I sense the person is hurting and is in need, but has no recourse but to call say myself a plumber for a resolution to their situation. A home with a main sewer stopped and a nasty situation, they do not have the money to pay for it, or they may have it but may have to pay me and not provide for a child or something else also needed. If I sense this I generally reduce the fee greatly, I have even not charged at all and told them to enjoy.

Now these things bring you favor in Gods eyes, but not in the eyes of men.

So now the story. I went to a home and this old lady had an old rotten corroded kitchen sink faucet. It was ancient and leaked and just trying to remove the handles from the faucet stems cause the handles to crumble in my hands. It was in awful shape. There was no need to try to fix it, a new one was required.

I told her this and she hit me with the I am on a fixed income and I cannot afford this .........so I told her I will fix it today for a short time but it will not last and so I did. I charged her that time 15 dollars for a couple handles and a washer I took off the truck. I told her to call me when she had the money for a new faucet and I would be easy on her on the installation.

I never heard a word....but a few months later another Plumber in town saw me at the supply house and said.......Hey Kit do you know you are a worthless, despicable money grubbing person? Yea you are really bad. He was about to die laughing and really pulling my chain. You see we have all been through these things so we do find them humorous. He told me this old lady my customer had called him to put on a new faucet and he did so. But she told him I was a terrible plumber and did not fix the faucet well and it still leaked and I had ripped her off. Lol!!

Thinking back I remember her huffing on a cig the whole time, with a carton of cig on the table, a fancy new car, and seemed to want for nothing. So I allowed my sense of right to ignore the obvious. She was ripping me off. Lol!

I suppose if you really sense they need a break, then do so. If they tell you a sob story then test it.

We are to be gentle as a lamb but cunning as a snake, sometimes the other snake wins. When we do not test the actions of others, sometimes we do ourselves in. We intent to do right, but they have intent to do us wrong. Not that this matters at all, as God knew our heart at the time. Just be careful of people, they can stand there and look you in the eyes and lie and not flinch.

Just a humorous story, but it did teach me a great lesson . And that was if they are in need great. If they are simply using you to gain an advantage, hammer them, increase the price.

Here is another lesson, we are to be as God wishes us in business. But he does not require we be taken advantage of. But you have to really be aware this day in age. Upstanding members of the community, the police, and even the local preacher are the ones to watch. In my area there is a plumber under every bush, when the housing industry fell a great many were put out of work and are still without work. So there are many to call. So some will call one this time and another the next time and never pay or intend to pay any. They make a circle of calls, use this one this time, that one next time and never pay for any. They get up each day with the intent to rip someone off. When I sense a problem I take that call myself. I will go to the home and look around, I am observant, if they are very poor, a house full of kids and no food I sense the need. If it is a fancy home and the vessel of plenty and they say.......when I ask how do you intend to pay, they say, I though you could just leave me a bill and I will send it to you, I do not get paid till Friday........yea.....tell me another one. The fancy boat is sitting in the drive, ready for the weekend, all hooked up, the Suv is loaded with possessions, it is a nice home, and the sewer is stopped up. But they do not get paid till Friday..........at this point I tell them cash in advance, call me when you have it. See ya.

Kit
