What does it mean to be saved?

@Brother-Paul

that Is true -- being saved means everything.

Heaven instead of hell. I Think I was going for the concept that salvation in and of itself -- does not require good works.

The Law and all the laws have been the subject -- they are Good in and of themselves -- but Not 'required' for a person's salvation. They Will come -- good works -- on our part Because of our salvation.

Given that you have placed your Faith in the right place, do you agree that you will be keeping the 10 Commandments?

that will Probably be the case. But our mind-set should Not be to be keeping track Of the Ten Commandments during the day, week etc. Because at Some point during 'time frame' chances are we Will be breaking one of those 10 commandments. Now it's Also true that there are those who seem to be doing a good job of Keeping all of them. But no one knows their inner thought life. "This" week might be pretty good, but 'Next week' ?!

IF it Were possible To keep all of those commandments All of the time, there would be no need For the cross.

There's always the potential for some Pride to get in the way.

And there are those who would ask -- have you ever killed a mosquito? Of course the answer would be 'yes'. That's a natural instinct. We don't want the mosquito Bite

The key is keeping your mind on Christ. Everyone has broken the 10 commandments because of what is in our hearts. For example: before you surrendered to Jesus and were born again, did you

1. Have a goal or a primary focus on something other than knowing and loving God and being obedient to God? First and Second commandments.

2. Use the Lord our God's name in a curse phrase, or in your mind without blurting out the words, as in JFC or OMFG? Third commandment.

3. Fail to remember the Sabbath and to keep it holy? Fourth commandment.

4. Disobey your parents, do something your parents warned you not to do, or harbor ill-will in your mind toward them because you couldn't do what you wanted to do? Fifth commandment.

5. Have anger in your heart or be angry at someone for something you may have done yourself, as in: tailgate, take the bigger half of the last cookie, talk in the movie theater while everyone is trying to watch the movie? Sixth commandment.

6. Lust in your heart for someone not your spouse? Seventh commandment.

7. Take something that did not belong to you (no matter how small it was) without permission, and keep it, as in: pen from your employer, etc? Eighth commandment.

8. Tell a lie about anything for any reason? Ninth commandment.

9. Desire in your heart a possession of someone else, a position of someone else, station in life of someone else, circle of friends of someone else, etc? Tenth commandment.

I doesn't matter whether you physically murdered, physically had sex with someone not your spouse, physically stole from someone, or physically cursed using God's name. It's what is in the heart that God looks at to see if you're keeping his standards of moral excellence.

Thankfully we have the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ that covers all of our trespasses sins and iniquities. When God the Father looks at us HE sees not us but HIS magnificent and perfectly sinless Son Jesus. Amen.

every should strive to keep the 10 commandments as Jesus said those who love him keep his word, and as John said if we stumble we have a advocate in Jesus Christ and we need to repent

If we are not intentionally doing are best to keep the 10 commandments how can we say we know Jesus??

we should not have any strong holds of sin in our life once born again,

the real question is do we want to keep them to please our heavenly father, I do.

Doesn't He put those in our hearts so that we'll Want to follow them? They're sort of 'automatic' for a believer to Be doing.

Saved means you are taken out of this world, gone to be with the Lord forever, and saved from the wrath of God that is to come.

Salvation has three aspects -- justification (having been saved/ accepted Christ as personal Savior) Sanctification (growing in grace and knowledge Of the Lord Jesus Christ) Glorification ( being with Christ.)

So - Presently - we are being Sanctified.

Doesn't He put those in our hearts so that we'll Want to follow them? They're sort of 'automatic' for a believer to Be doing.

Hmmm... so you've never sinned since becoming a Christian, that's good.

What does the word "Salvation" mean to you? Do you think it is possible for Yeshua Messiah/Jesus Christ to Backslide from Salvation?

You're asking if Jesus Christ can backslide from salvation?

He Provided our salvation -- Jesus Christ doesn't Need salvation.

So the question would be is it possible for a born again believer to backslide From salvation. Yes, it is. We all slip up once in a while -- we're human -- but Because of Jesus Christ we have forgiveness. We won't Loose our salvation, but we've gotten a bit away From and need to be closer.

Hmmm... so you've never sinned since becoming a Christian, that's good.

I'm not saying That, either. Of Course I have -- but it's a relationship God wants with us Through Jesus Christ -- not feeling the need to follow a bunch of rules.

Have you ever stopped to consider how hypocritical this sounds?
You say if you're a Christian, it'll just be automatic that you won't want to sin.
Then you turn around in the very next post, and say "but of course I sin all the time".

I sin sometimes also, but I never tell anyone it'll just automatically happen that they won't want to sin.
Still we should be sinning a LOT less. We shouldn't be practicing sin.

@B-A-C -- you sound like you have a grudge against me or something. You keep putting words in my mouth.

And I never said I sin all the time. Or that I Don't sin.

A Lot of people feel they need to keep all the Ten Commandments all the time 'or else'. That's why I said that it's the relationship with us that God wants -- not our feeling the need to 'keep score' of what laws we've broken and which we haven't.

The Holy Spirit indwelling us changes our desires. No one will ever be perfect in this lifetime.

You're right -- 'we' should not be Practicing sin.

And we Should be loving the Lord our God with all our heart, mind and soul And Then we'll be loving our neighbor as ourselves.

And I never said I sin all the time. Or that I Don't sin.

Not those exact words, but you have certainly inferred it, even if you didn't mean to.

No one will ever be perfect in this lifetime.

Where does the Bible say that? Where does it say we "have" to sin.
Several people in the Bible were perfect and sinless. Even 144,000 Jews.

you sound like you have a grudge against me or something

No, nothing personal against you. What I am against is the idea we don't have to do anything different after becoming a believer.
We can sin all we want, live how we want, no obedience is required. (You say you don't "feel" like following any commands or rules")
You say that following the commandments is not required.

That is what I am against. Not you.

Jude 1:4
(AMPC) For certain men have crept in stealthily [gaining entrance secretly by a side door]. Their doom was predicted long ago, ungodly (impious, profane) persons who pervert the grace (the spiritual blessing and favor) of our God into lawlessness and wantonness and immorality, and disown and deny our sole Master and Lord, Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
(ASV) For there are certain men crept in privily, even they who were of old written of beforehand unto this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
(BBE) For certain men have come among you secretly, marked out before in the holy Writings for this evil fate, men without the fear of God, turning his grace into an unclean thing, and false to our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
(CEV) Some godless people have sneaked in among us and are saying, "God treats us much better than we deserve, and so it is all right to be immoral." They even deny that we must obey Jesus Christ as our only Master and Lord. But long ago the Scriptures warned that these godless people were doomed.
(CSB) For some people, who were designated for this judgment long ago, have come in by stealth; they are ungodly, turning the grace of our God into sensuality and denying Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord.
(ESV) For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
(GNB) For some godless people have slipped in unnoticed among us, persons who distort the message about the grace of our God in order to excuse their immoral ways, and who reject Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord. Long ago the Scriptures predicted the condemnation they have received.

(GW) Some people have slipped in among you unnoticed. Not long ago they were condemned in writing for the following reason: They are people to whom God means nothing. They use God's kindness as an excuse for sexual freedom and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
(HCSB) For some men, who were designated for this judgment long ago, have come in by stealth; they are ungodly, turning the grace of our God into promiscuity and denying Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord.
(KJV) For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

(MKJV) For certain men crept in secretly, those having been of old previously written into this condemnation, ungodly ones perverting the grace of our God for unbridled lust, and denying the only Master, God, even our Lord Jesus Christ.
(MSG) What has happened is that some people have infiltrated our ranks (our Scriptures warned us this would happen), who beneath their pious skin are shameless scoundrels. Their design is to replace the sheer grace of our God with sheer license—which means doing away with Jesus Christ, our one and only Master.
(NAS77) For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
(NAS95) For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

(NIrV) Certain people have slipped in among you in secret. Long ago it was written that they would be judged. They are godless people. They use the grace of our God as an excuse for sexual sins. They say no to Jesus Christ. He is our only Lord and King.
(NIV) For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.
(NKJV) For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
(NLT) I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God’s marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives. The condemnation of such people was recorded long ago, for they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
(RV) For there are certain men crept in privily, even they who were of old set forth unto this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

2Pet 2:1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
2Pet 2:2 Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned;

2Pet 2:4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment;
2Pet 2:5 and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;

2Pet 2:9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,
2Pet 2:10 and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble when they revile angelic majesties,

2Pet 2:14 having eyes full of adultery that never cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having a heart trained in greed, accursed children;

2Pet 2:17 These are springs without water and mists driven by a storm, for whom the black darkness has been reserved.
2Pet 2:18 For speaking out arrogant words of vanity they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error,
2Pet 2:19 promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved.
2Pet 2:20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.
2Pet 2:21 For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them.
2Pet 2:22 It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "A DOG RETURNS TO ITS OWN VOMIT," and, "A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire."

2Tim 4:2; preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
2Tim 4:3; For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,
2Tim 4:4; and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Rev 14:5; And no lie was found in their mouth; they are blameless.

Job 2:3; The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause."

1Cor 10:13; No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

And do those scriptures mean that no sin was ever committed by them? No, for ALL HAVE SINNED and NONE ARE GOOD BUT GOD and NO ONE SEEKS AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS and THERE IS NOT A RIGHTEOUS MAN ON EARTH WHO DOES GOOD AND NEVER SINS and FOR THERE IS NO ONE WHO DOES NOT SIN.

Yes all have sinned. But do you have to continue sinning after you are saved?

Heb 10:26; For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

Rom 6:16; Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?

What does it mean to be saved?

Look at 1 Corinthians 15 : 1-3 "Moreover brethren, I declare to you the gospel .... by which also you are saved...... That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures ."

That Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

And look at Romans 10: 9-10 "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

It means that you've realized that you're a sinner and can't save yourself. That you believe in your heart according to what those verses say. You talk to God -- tell Him you want His salvation. You thank Him for His gift Of salvation. Jesus Christ having died on the cross for Your sins and thank Him for dying for You. And then the Holy Spirit will come to indwell you -- you will feel a peace within your heart that hadn't been there before. He gives you New desires -- a new understanding of God's Word. A desire to please God.

We're still part of this world -- but we will have the Holy Spirit to give us direction on how to live for Him and avoid some of this world's pollution. We Can say No to activities /habits that are not good healthy for us.

What does it mean to be saved?

Hi @Sue D,

It means that my sins have been forgiven, and that there is now nothing separating me from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. I now have eternal security, and the hope of life everlasting in Christ Jesus my Lord. He has placed me 'in' Christ Jesus, Who, of God, is made unto me, wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption. He has also made me meet to partake of the inheritance of the saints in light. This is all the work of God, in Christ Jesus our Lord. It is a finished work, and I am accepted in the Beloved, not because of anything I have done; but because God willed it, and because the Lord Jesus Christ bore the penalty of my sins upon Himself, and died in my place, thereby giving me life.

This is the testimony of all who have been saved by God's grace, as I have.

Praise God!
