What does the bible say about Mental Health Medication?

Hi folks I have a question concerning Mental Health Meds. I have been precribed mh meds and have been taking them for many years. Strangely when I first started taking them it felt like my soul was being stripped away from me I felt horrible like I was dissappointing God and I was very depressed till they filtered in my system. After a small amount of time I had gained over 40lbs and my health was severly damaged when I questioned my nurse practioner about the meds she said once on the meds you can subtract 10 years from your life. Recently I have been steadly getting off of them and I feel alright but I have noticed that my mind is going back to its old ways. Here is my concern, I want to be mentally safe around all people and situations, however I dont want to lose so much of my life. I am now 40 years old and have diabetes, liver problems, and kidney problems all from my medication. I have been fasting completely removed alcohol from my life, changed eating habits, and been praying to the Lord alot. My question is would our father want me to lose my life with the medication for a chance not to be psycotic as I used to be, or am I to trust the Lord and fight through it without the meds. What does the word of God say about this I want to do right not by man but by what I feel our father would want. please let me know what you all think of this. Thank You John Paul

The bible, even in New Testament times, knew little about medications. Jesus saw a deeper cause for some of the mental problems, which point to possession. But faith in Christ, and God, can do miracles. Go ahead and seek that avenue if you wish. But in the meantime, I recommend you stay on your medication. Even if you believe a miracle has taken place, I would stay on the medication but slowly decrease the dosage until no longer needed due to miracle cure. This is not about doubting God, but about doubting ones own discernment if a miracle had indeed occurred. It is a way to not subject others to psychotic episodes.

However, the main thing to remember is that we have Christ's Spirit in us (the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth). Let Christ's Spirit guide you in all decisions.
Christ's Spirit, when we are humbled (soft and still) can be felt to move in our heart, mind and emotions. It is Christ's Spirit loving you and your heart-consciousness loves the Truth, because that is where it originated from. In that loving, surrender to it, and all concerns will mean nothing. In that loving the Love that loves you, you are already home while on earth. It is your serenity in all things.

Remain content in all things.
Philippians 4:11-13
11. I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
12. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
13. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Well said brother I have decresed now I am off the meds I have decided to make an appointment with my doctor to see if they can give me something that will not have as many health causing problems. I am just very thankful that the Lord is patient and I know he undetstands and I do appreciate you getting back to me on this subject have a great day :)

Avoiding prescribed meds is tempting God. God works through doctors.

Nobody can say to a Christian that they are losing ten years. Albeit they have their reasons, we know that God is control of our time of arrival and departure from earth.

I am sorry to hear about your condition. All I can say is that life is difficult for those that love God. God wants to give us problems, to test us. One-day in heaven you will be known as the person who endured X and Y for God and remained faithful through it all.

Keep on praying. Keep on worshipping and all these problems will either fade away or you will receive strength to live with them.

There are some things only he can heal because Lord knows many doctors do not fast and pray to heal their patients and rely on their own wisdom when we ought to be asking our Father above.

What you can do is renew your mind with the word of God. Do this by reading the Bible every day! Then you wont need to ask us about whats inthe bible...you will know yourself what God says!
A merry heart makes good medicine.

Ask Jesus for full deliverance and inner healing. Ask Him to show you how to live healthy...one of the most therapeutic and healing things you can do it grow fresh herbs and add them to your diet.
