Don't put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the LORD their God. Psalm 146:3-5 NLT
In what or in whom do you trust with your whole heart? In well-established government t institutions? In a lifelong friend who has never let you down, who would literally give you the shirt off his back?
Today’s scripture passage tells us that placing our full trust in anything or anyone other than the Lord is unwise. That’s because even the most dependable worldly institutions or the most dependable friends are temporary—both will one day cease to exist. But eternally dependable help comes only from our eternal God. He alone is worthy of our praise and absolute trust.
God calls those who belong to Him to trust in Him with our whole hearts. No one or nothing is even close to Him when it comes to dependability and trustworthiness. Count on Him always.
Prayer: Lord God, this world’s people and institutions may be of help to me, but only in the short-term. But You will never fail me or make Yourself unavailable to me. You are, and always will be, my unfailing source of help. I trust in You!
