"Enough of this nonsense," Joab said. Then he took three daggers and plunged them into Absalom's heart as he dangled, still alive, in the great tree. 2 Samuel 18:14 NLT
This isn’t the first time Joab directly disobeyed God and his king. Both times, April 14 and today, Joab murders a man in cold blood.
How could a man be so wicked? For starters, pride and anger:
In Confessions of an Angry Man Brent Hofer says words that should haunt every man. Without divine and professional help, there’s no limit to how much wickedness a prideful and angry man could do someday.
Of course pride and anger are only two in a long list of things that make a man cold blooded. To pride and anger, James adds false religiosity, lack of love for all men, dead faith, a tongue lit on fire by hell, bitter envy, selfish ambition, and..well, you get the idea
Paul adds: “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice” (Ephesians 4:31) and “rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips” (Colossians 3:8).
All such cold-blooded sins begin in the mind not focused on God and His Word.
Prayer: Lord, You want me to abhor evil in all its forms. I will focus on You and Your Word today.
