Let’s now explore who is drunken and guilty of the blood of the saints and prophets, in order that we might better discern how the woman and "Mystery", Babylon the great is not just a brick and mortar city on the map somewhere.
In Revelation 17:5-6 we read;” And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon the Great, The Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.”
Now some say this woman refers to a brick and mortar city, but hopefully with some scriptural proof we will see the woman speaks of much more than a certain location on a map, but more of a "global" spiritually corrupt "worldly system" based on false beliefs and false religions of carnally minded men.
To prove the woman is global, and her ways effect "the whole earth" lets go to Revelation 16:1-6 “And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God "upon the earth". And the first went, and poured out his vial "upon the earth"; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea. And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood. And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus. For "they" have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given "them" blood to drink; for "they" are worthy.”
Here we see the judgment of God’s wrath falls upon "the whole earth" not just a single city or a limited geographic location, because it is those who are of this world (and of the spirit of this world) who are guilty of the blood of the saints and prophets, not just a brick and mortar city like Jerusalem.
This can also be proven in Jesus’ words concerning the “wicked generation” or serpents seed. Matthew 23:33-36; “ Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.”
First thing notice the Lord calls them a generation of vipers, which are those who are of the serpents seed, as the Lord said in the beginning to the serpent that He would put enmity between the serpents seed (generation of vipers) and the woman’s seed (seed of promise in Christ). The serpent’s seed are those who are still of the "flesh", and the woman’s seed are those who are born again of Gods Spirit.
That allegory was shown in the 2 separate Jerusalem’s (earthly vs heavenly) and in their children (flesh vs. Spirit) in Galatians 4:23; “But he who was of the bond woman was born after the flesh; but he of the
freewoman was by promise.”
Notice Jesus also said they would be guilty of all the righteous blood that is shed upon "the earth"starting with the righteous blood of Abel. And so who killed Abel and what seed was Cain of? We are given the answer here in 1 John 3:12; “Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.”
In this we see the Lord didn’t single out any certain small generation like the Jews, or a small city like Jerusalem as some might understand it, but he foretold of the judgment and wrath that would fall upon a whole wicked and adulterous generation.
This generation of vipers are of their father the Devil, and they are also the ones who have persecuted and killed all the saints of "the world" since the time of Cain, even until now.
So when the judgment and wrath falls on Mystery, Babylon the “great city”, it shall be felt "globally", as this can also be confirmed by scripture. When the 7th angel pours out his vial into the air soon thereafter there is an great earthquake upon "the earth". Revelation 16:19 “And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of "the nations fell": and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
If Mystery Babylon the “great city” were a small brick and mortar city, it still would not cause “the cities of the nations to fall” if it only experienced a localized earthquake. And if that were the case it would also not cause all the merchants of "the earth" to bewail her falling. Revelation 18:11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: Revelation 18:15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,”
So this Mystery Babylon is much more than just a small place on the map, but more of a "global" spiritual system of wickedness and corruption working in commerce, governments, and even in many religions. As some have left their first love and played the Harlot with "the ways" of the world.
So when Jesus spoke of the end of this age in Luke 21:32 “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.” He was speaking to the whole wicked generation since iniquity was found in mankind until the Lord returns and consumes that Wicked, and iniquity shall have an end.
Notice the wording here concerning the Mystery, Babylon the great……
Revelation 18:24 “And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of "all that were slain upon the earth.”
I know of no single country or city in the world where the blood of "all that were ever slain" can be found, do you? But there is one “her” found in scripture that fits this description, and that is good ole Mother "Earth."
Notice the "earth" is mentioned as “her” several times in scripture, and notice she receives the blood…
Genesis 4:11 “And now art thou cursed from "the earth", which hath opened "her mouth" to receive thy brother's "blood" from thy hand;”
Notice the blood and slain go back to the earth….
Isaiah 26:21 “For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of "the earth" for their iniquity: "the earth" also shall disclose "her blood", and shall no more cover "her" slain.”
Deuteronomy 12:16 “Only ye shall not eat the blood; ye shall pour it upon the earth as water.”
Job 16:18 “O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.”
Man was made from the dust of the earth, and the life of the flesh, which is "the blood" returns to the "earth"….
Ecclesiastes 12:7 “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
So this world/earth is like "the Mother" of all those who are "firstborn flesh", as we are all firstborn under the elements of the world being under the law of sin and death. But it is what is "in" the world (spiritual wickedness) that causes religious people to go and play the harlot with ""the ways of the world, which is sin, or ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Now the great ***** is not the earth itself, but rather it being a “spirit of wickedness” working "in" the world, she corrupts the earth with her fornication. (spirit of whoredoms)
Revelation 19:2 “For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great *****, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.”
Now it is also written in Revelation 17:18 “And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.”
I believe there is a connection between being "of" the world, and playing the harlot with "the ways" of the world, and hell; which leads us to where the great city that reigns over the Kings of the earth is located.
Basically you have 2 kingdoms, the Kingdom of Heaven and of Hell; just as there are 2 spiritual Jerusalem’s , one is of Heaven, the other is "of" this world/earth.
We know by scripture the god of this world is the Devil, but the Devil is also called the Angel and King over the children of hell, or the bottomless pit.
Jesus called the religious folk who had played the harlot with the ways of the world, the children of their father the devil, and Jesus also called them children of hell in Matthew 23:15 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.”
In this we can see how the harlot church system can lead one to being "a citizen of hell" instead of being
a citizen of heaven. Which brings us to who is presently reigning in this wicked world in Luke 4:5-6 “And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.”
So Satan is like the god, Prince, or King of this present evil world system; but he is also shown as the King of the bottomless pit: who is also known as the Destroyer or Destruction. We know he has the power of death as is written in scripture. And we also know that death has "reigned" on this earth by sin ever since Adam. Romans 5:21
So where could the great city of Babylon be now that "reigns over "the kings of the earth if Destruction is their King; who also "reigns over them" by sin and death? I believe we are given the answer here, Notice the relocation of the king of Babylon and how the old golden city ceased, and also notice where the chief ones of the earth and all the kings of the nations are now located below….
Isaiah 14:4-15 “That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!5 The Lord hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers.
6 He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that "ruled the nations" in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.7 The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing. 8 Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.
9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.
10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”
In the above we see where Satan and all the "past kings of the earth" are now "reigning", which is in hell.
