Problem: since when does lightning come from the east and shine to the west? It is quite the opposite. Storms originate from the west and move to the east. The Greek word also means bright light - like the sun rising for example. When the sun comes up in the morning the light does flash to the west - 100% of the time.

Parallel verses are useful in determining a more accurate interpretation. Too lazy to look them up right now.

"For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be" is just a figure of speech to reference Jesus coming suddenly like a thief in the night for no one knows exactly when.
