Why is contraception against God?

Conjugal union physiologically is a reproductive act. Therefore, when contraception is used, it frustrates the physiological purpose of the act. It is similar to eating food, while putting a barrier in the stomach so that the nutritive value of the food is eliminated. Those who use it, therefore, abuse their bodies. Furthermore, by going against the natural physiology, they are going against the creator of the physiology. Openness to procreation is love because it involves giving of one self. Therefore, contraception removes love from conjugal act; making it an act of pure pleasure and participants of it objects to derive pleasure from. It is, therefore, harmful to the love relationship between husband and wife. It is therefore no surprise that after the popularization of contraception divorce took a steep rise. In addition since the aim of contraception is to prevent another human being from being formed, it is an anti-human act. It, therefore, degrades the respect we have for human life. This has resulted in increase in incidence of abortion, child abuse and infanticide. It is, therefore, no surprise that in the scriptures a contraceptive act was considered deadly in the eyes of God (Gen.38: 8-10).

I no longer use contraception (birth control) as I have matured more in
age and I am more regular. I am not arguing with you or going
against what you say seeing as I stopped them because they gave me
ovarian cysts (that I am still dealing with.) But what if someone
were taking them for health reasons such as I did when I was irregular?
There are other health reasons I heard people take them for,
but that is all I have used them for so I wouldn't know.
Anyways, if someone were using them for health reasons,
what would be the response for that?

Personally, I believe it is a what is the intent of using it.

Without getting too into in, I had bleeding for over a month and went to my Gyn and she put me on birth control to stop it. And it worked. I don't take it anymore though.

And I don't think I was sinning. I think it was one way that God stopped the bleeding!

Also, I believe this is for a couple and God to figure out. I think it is personal.

I think they are more against it because they are saying sex should only be used for reproduction not pleasure

Your saying it gave you ovarian cysts---I thought the pill was used medicinally commonly to control cysts???---But to answer your question, NO, it's not displeasing to the Lord to use them medicinally at all.

Happy

I started to develop them while I was on it yes. I kept using the pill
since I didn't think it was causing them, but once I stopped the cysts
stopped too. I now have 3 total in one ovary. I am too young to
have any sort of procedure done, so I just live with it. They only
hurt under stress, and if it happens, I just take ibuprofen and go
about my day. :)

I understand that Genesis 38:8-10 is the only place in the Bible people against contraception refer to to argue that contraception is wrong. The way I understand the passage is that Onan had a responsibility to give his sister-in law (a widow) a child to carry on his brother's line and to care for her in her old age. It was a sin that he selfishly shirked that responsibility. The question is whether it is a sin to avoid pregnancy in all occasions, based on that one incident mentioned in the Bible.

I personally don't think it's saying that all contraception is wrong, just in situations where there is specific social responsibility to procreate. While I appreciate those people who don't believe in contraception, because as such they show a deep committment to abstain from sex or otherwise take responsibility for caring for a large family, I do also think there are loving and caring reasons for people to use contraception. God has given us a responsibility to care for the earth, and overpopulation is having a fairly serious effect on the earth. There are also many children in children's homes who could be adopted into loving Christian families.

I hope this is not offensive to some readers.

"Be fruitful and multiply" and the story of Onan are both concepts for a specific group of people at a specific time. God would obviously not want people to multiply as much as possible so that there were more people than food. Most people do not think it is moral to have sex with a widowed sister-in-law enough times to produce a child, in fact it would be illegal in most countries and I don't see any demonstrations to overturn the laws that prohibit having sex with widowed sisters-in law against their will just to fulfill laws in the scripture.

I hear folks say that "be fruitful and multiply" also means to restrain oneself from sex so that you don't have any more children, but this seems to be self-contradictory.

The fact is, God wants us to behave in responsible ways, not according to things he said to another people at another time, despite doctrinal statements and twisting of Biblical texts to the contrary. God gave us free will and intelligence to work these things out, and Jesus spoke against those who apply the Bible as a bunch of rules. He said, "God does not want sacrifice, but rather mercy. Don't blame the guiltless" for doing what is needed to have a fulfilled life in the sight of God. I personally do not believe abortion is the "right" thing to do in most circumstances, but I believe even more strongly that such a decision is between a woman and God and I have no right to judge anyone for choosing something differently than I would. I have never once met a woman who had an abortion casually and without a great deal of turmoil (despite popular untrue beliefs to the contrary), and it is wrong for me to judge what is between them and God.
