Why is marital union an act of love?

Marriage is a covenant of love between a man and a woman, in which they unconditionally surrender their entire lives to each other (Ephesians 5:25) to unite them into one common life. They are therefore no longer two but one (Matthew 19: 4-6). Furthermore, they unconditionally surrender their common life to God by their willingness to freely accept children from God (Genesis 1:28). These two commitments make marriage a covenant of love. Similarly conjugal union (within in marriage) is an act of love because it executes the marital commitments by uniting lives of the couple in a procreative act. On the other hand, conjugal union outside the marriage is devoid of love because it lacks the marital commitments. Furthermore, those involved in it abuse their bodies by engaging in an act that unites lives, without uniting their lives (in marriage).

Using great swelling words of vanity does not bring the meaning of marriage any merit other than flattering ones self. Using the phrase "unconditionally surrender" is nice sounding, but is not edifying. As the couple becomes "one", this is to say, they are to be joined in unity of purpose the rest of their lives, for the mutual care for each other´s welfare, before their own. And this applies when the two are comforted together by mutual faith in God. Yet we must keep in mind what the Lord Jesus Christ tells us, that those of our own household may become our enemy. We must take heed that the light that we think is light, is not darkness. Again, when they both remain in unity of purpose, then is when they remain as one, but when one leans somewhat to modify righteousness to accommodate sin, then the other must choose to uphold their stand for the cause of right, or else, they will choose to please their spouse to avoid disagreement, and further agitation. This means that everything cannot be a blank surrender that is unconditional, but again, only when they both remain together in unity of purpose.

Surrender is to give our entire being lto love our spouse. Obviously, if spouse is doing something wrong, then because of love, we would what ever is needed to help our spouse overcome her/his problem.
