John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me''.
How do you explain this verse to an unsaved person?
I love how Jesus chose His words. He never beat around the bush. He said things as they were. It is for us to figure out the 'why'. The Holy Spirit does help us. So what is the 'why'? We can't say ''we must just accept Jesus'', because 'He said so'. Accepting Jesus is not magical words we need to recite in order to be saved. It is paramount to answer the 'why' and be able to explain it to the unsaved.
Here is my take, you don't have to agree. I am sure there is much to be said on this.
I want you to imagine living in a house that welcomes Saddam Hussein and rejects Mother Theresa. My country (South Africa) accepts a visit from Omar al-Bashir (Sudanese president) but rejects a visit from the Dalai Lama.
What would you say of the owner of that house? Rejecting Jesus speaks volumes of who you are as a person.
But there is more. Jesus was crucified because He said He was the Messiah John 5:18. The Son of God. According to Isaiah 9:6 that makes Him equal with God. IE Jesus called Himself God.
Jesus is putting the ball fully in our court on the need to pursue a personal investigation into Him being God. If you approve of what Jesus taught, you will further investigate this. If at the very least to do so on bended knee before God and sincerely ask Him to reveal the truth of Jesus. Scripture is crystal clear to us on the fact that God does reveal Jesus to those after His heart. 1 Cor 12:3, Matt 16:16-17.
What also needs to be grasped / mentioned regarding Jesus is the core of His message. The chief reason for Him ever speaking up / coming to earth is in Matt 5:32. 'I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance'. Accepting Jesus is sincerely repenting of your sins. Making rejecting Jesus, a refusal to truthfully repent.
Conclusion:
If you do not accept Jesus you are not a good person. If you accept Jesus's teachings but do not know Him as Lord, God does not believe you are a good person.
We must be truly desirous of sincere repentance from sin Psalm 51:17 and have a genuine hatred of what is evil Rom 12:9, before God will draw near to us James 4:8.
So if any of the teachings of Jesus hits a chord in your heart, you owe it to yourself, Jesus and God, to do further research. Rejecting Jesus is a grievous sin.
