This is the second part of the series Why Speak God's Word, in the first part we looked at the word as medicine and the fact that words affect the body. In this part we will look at how God works through his word. Notice, in Matthew 8 it says that a centurion came to Jesus on behalf of his servant that was sick and Jesus said that he would come and heal him, but the centurion responded, "Speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed." Why did he say speak the word only because he knew Jesus was under authority because in Luke 7 it says that the centurion said to Jesus, "For I also am a man set under authority" and being under authority someone of power was over him. And when under authority as long as you are within your authority all you have to do is speak. And when you speak it's with the power of the one that sent you.
Notice, in Luke chapter 10 Jesus sent out 70 others with the same command that he gave the 12 disciples to cast out devils and in verse 17 it says that they came back with joy saying,"Lord, even the devils are subject to us through thy name." Notice, when they spoke to devils in the name(authority) of Jesus it was with the power of Jesus just as if he spoke himself. And when you speak God's word it is with the same power as if God spoke. That's why He says in Isaiah 55:11 that his word will not return to him void, but it shall accomplish. How does his word return to him when you speak it or proclaim it. Notice, in Titus 1:3 it says that God manifests his word through preaching, preaching simply means to proclaim or speak out. The Holy Spirit manifests the spoken word. Even in Genesis 1 it says that the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters so he was there, but not doing anything until God said, "Let there be light" and there was light. Even Jesus in John 14:10 said,"The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Jesus spoke God's word for in John 3:34 it says,"For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God." So, when he spoke the words of God The Holy Spirit carried them out, manifested them.
In Mark 16:20 notice it says, And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Now, again don't think preaching means you have to give a sermon, no. Because, in Matthew 10:7 Jesus said,"And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand." See, that's it no long sermon just speaking the word. The word of God released is what the Holy Spirit does. So, if there's no word going out then The Holy Spirit is limited in what he can do,legally because God gave man dominion on the earth. And man operates in that dominion by speaking. Man has the right to choose the words that he speaks, but understand that by your words either you authorize God or the devil to do things in the earth. So, the more of God's word that goes out the more God is legally authorized to do in the earth. Notice, in Amos 3:7 it says, Surely the Lord will do nothing, but(unless) he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. What is the number one job of a prophet, to speak what thus saith the Lord. And once it's spoken by a man then it is legal for him to do it. So, what word are you speaking. We are told in Hebrews 10:23 to hold fast to our profession(confession) of faith. Confession means to say the same thing, but it's not just speaking, but is it a confession of faith. Notice, what Jesus told his disciples after he cursed that fig tree and it dried up in Matthew 21:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. So, in closing just ask yourself this question, what word am I speaking. And do you have faith in it. Because the word can't fail it will accomplish.
It is not God's will that any should perish. And I wouldn't want to end this article without giving someone the opportunity to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. It's very easy just pray: Dear God- I know I have sinned and I now turn from them and I invite Jesus to come into my heart (Revelation 3:20). He died for my sins and you have raised him from the dead and I now confess that Jesus is my Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9,10). I thank you for saving me, Amen
