The most reliable source is not the Holy Spirit but the
Word of God. Many people will say the Holy Spirit told
them to do things that don't match up with the Word.
Yet if we learn the Word of God and study it daily, we
can tell the difference between the Holy Spirit and our
own thoughts and feelings.

Jesus Promises Another Helper
15 “If you love Me, keep[d] My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. John 14

The Holy Spirit is reliable because he is the helper the revealer of all truth.

John 16
13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

15All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The problem is and have always been man.


The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? jeremiah 17:9


I've met people who said the holy spirit told them not to wear pants or makeup. I just kinda laugh inside because if I was to ask them to show me scripture to support it they can't. People throw around " God told me " and the " Holy Spirit led me ," to appear righteous. You would know because they say it in a way to justify their action before you get the chance to ask them why.

The Holy Spirit is the revealer of all truth and scripture will always confirm the message given. A man can not read the bible and gain full understanding without Having the Holy Spirit.

The next time someone says the Holy Spirit led them ask them for scripture, if they can't produce any thing you then tell them to go home and test all things 1 Thessalonians 5:21. For that spirit can be anything.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because MANY false prophets are gone out into the world. I Jn 4:1
